Sazon - Sabor A Mexico

Great place I tried for the 1st time last night. Off South Lamar, across the street from La Feria.

Cool patio area, relaxing, great Marg's, really good queso. Had the Pollo Al Carbon ... delicious.

It's a cool place with the "Austin" vibe. I will definently be back, and soon. Hell, I'll probably try their breafast this weekend.

I am bumping this thread because I think I will be going there tonight at the suggestion of a friend. Will report my findings.

We went there a few months ago for a late Saturday lunch. Service was awful, and they had plenty of help for a slow afternoon.

But, the food was good. I imagine I'll try it again.

Oops, forgot to report my findings. We were there for a little of two hours. I am not one to usually fault the service when there is a large party (we had about 10), but it was a freaking Wednesday night. The place was half empty. I didn't think the food was that great. My tacos were pretty bland. The margaritas were so-so. The queso was excellent. I'm not sure I will be making it back there with so many other good spots in town.

I saw this suggestion a while back and my wife and I finally made it to Sazon last night.

Food was outstanding and our service was very good. I imagine the between Christmas-New Year's is a tough time for restaurants in that they probably don't have their full staff on board during the period and could be a reason for other posters poor service.

I had the achiote pork and my bride had the chicken mole enchiladas. Both were excellent, as well as the queso.

What I love about Savon is the huitlacoche empanadas. They are the only restaurant in Austin I have seen serve this... (well, I am not going to tell you what it is, but it takes like a very rich mushroom).

I LOVE this dish. The ceviche is damn good as well.

Also they make a mean michelada.

This is one of my fav places in town and we just learn to live the with the service, have an extra drink, and relax on the patio.

They changed thier menu from the first time I went there. It use to have more 'interior' type cholces.

The Mexican Martini is pretty good. On par with Trudy's and Cedar Door.
