My wife and I thought it was a pretty good caper movie that, for us, was on an entertainment level with such films as "The Departed," either version of "The Italian Job," "Snatch," "Layer Cake" or "Ocean's Eleven, Twelve Or Thirteen."
Don't know why it didn't get a little more buzz or maybe my aging ears just missed it.
However, Jeremy Renner is Oscar nominated for Best Supporting Actor in recognition of his performance here.
Admittedly, "The Town" can't boast the huge directorial or acting starpower of those flicks mentioned above: Scorsese, Soderbergh, Nicholson, Clooney, Caine, Pitt, DiCaprio, Norton, Damon, Walburg, Sheen, Craig, Garcia, Farina, Statham, Cheadle, Del Toro, Theron, Zeta Jones, Roberts....
But, in addition to the talented male half of the former supercouple, "Bennifer," this movie does make good use of and can boast about Chris Cooper from "Breach" and "Lone Star," Jon Hamm of "Mad Men," Jeremy Renner from "The Hurt Locker," Rebecca Hall of "Vicky Christina Barcelona" and the very familiar, late, character actor Pete Postlethwaite in his next to last film.
It's a worthwhile rental, IMO.
Anyone seen it?
