....starring Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson with my dear wife and we both agreed it had a good cast, a scenic location and an interesting premise, but then it turned out to be quite lacking in the story and story telling departments.
The Link
It's a chic flick that my sweet wife had "heard good things about" and wanted to see, but I think most females and probably all males will find that it lacks significant spark in its script and quickly becomes tedious, as did she and I.
We simply didn't find it very funny, although the two lead actors tried hard and photogenic Alaska looked nice.
I will also freely admit that those same two photogenic lead actors looked nice and that Alaska tried hard as well.
It just wasn't very funny.
In fact, I believe would have enjoyed sitting though a biopic about the more interesting and more probably laughter inducing Palin family more.
They seem like a lot of fun.
If Nora Ephron, screenwriter of "Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail" and "When Harry Met Sally," had tried and failed at a misconceived attempt writing and filming a romantic comedy very loosely based on Ken Kesey's novel "Sometimes a Great Notion," something like this movie might have been the misguided result.
I also thought "Mamma Mia," which was another romantic comedy featuring some big stars involved in an iffy wedding celebration taking place in a lovely location, was much more entertaining.
"Mamma Mia" is a fun musical with sappy drama and slapstick humor and those were its selling points, plus the songs of "ABBA" were used to good effect even though I'm no fan of "ABBA."
I do appreciate their Swedish brand of pop/dance music more after seeing that movie and I found "Mamma Mia" recommendable to the proper audience.

If The Jacksons had all gone dermatologically white, partly blonde and allowed Janet and LaToya join into their male musical exuberance, we might have gotten something akin to or even surpassing ABBA.
"The Proposal" has Betty White doing a Native American dance and chant, a male stripper gyrating to the "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" hit, "Relax," (which I believe is about making anal intercourse more pleasurable) and Sandra and Ryan waspishly digging on "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock," but even that varied soundtrack wasn't nearly enough to overcome the dragging script and the barely sitcom worthy storyline.
This movie's plot, if pared down to a 30 minute time limit, might have been able to successfully carry an episode of "Seinfeld," but even then only to mediocritity.
Lots and lots of TV stuff is, IMO, much, much better than this flick.
And, IMHO, many big screen chic flicks, such as "The Devil Wears Prada," "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" or any of those I mentioned above, would be more satisfying choices for viewers of any gender.

I really didn't expect much at all from this trip to the movies, but even at senior ticket prices we still felt shortchanged.
I've warned you, but if you go I hope you'll enjoy it more than we did.
Sandra and Ryan had some chemistry, but we felt they needed a better story.
JMO, your thoughts?
