.......with Robert Downey Jr. Robert Duvall, Vera Farmigia,, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong and Billy Bob Thornton.
It was a real treat to see a very good movie with such a star-studded cast.
The Link
Ken Howard, TV's "The White Shadow," and Grace Zabriskie, the Morman matriarch in "Big Love," were also featured in smaller roles.
I thought it was a fully realized film with a good script, good acting, good direction and was very good overall movie making,
I would be pleased and not surprised to see Oscar acting nods for Downey and Duvall and a Best Picture nomination for the film itself.
It put me in mind of such fine film fare as "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Anatomy of a Murder."
IMHO, the motion picture industry doesn't very often make 'em like they used to anymore and that's to be expected and even accepted.
But, for me, this movie (rather than being a tribute, a throwback or a remake of anything from Hollywood's Golden Age) simply succeeds as a modern and current, stylish, interesting, complete and excellent film whose cinematic quality and appeal should be recognized and appreciated for being exactly that.
Special kudos from me, an experienced movie buff, to whoever located that scenic town and to all who brought forth this worthwhile flick.
There are several F bombs in the language, but no depicted sex, in this film that's directly targeted at discriminating, adult moviegoers who are so often. I believe, under served by what is shown on the screens of their local movie houses.
Highly recommended for those who would enjoy a worthwhile, well cast and well acted family relationship/courtroom drama which embraces, I think, some of the very best traditions of American film.
Any thoughts?
