It certainly wasn't "Hoosiers" or even "A League of Their Own," but IMHO it was pretty good entertainment on a slow night.

I chuckled throughout and even laughed aloud a few times.

I'll recommend it as a well-directed, decently written and satisfyingly clever sports comedy/drama.

Seriously.

I wasn't aware of it, so thanks for the recommendation. I immediately recognized the director's name, a real 'blast from the past;' she directed 'Desperately Seeking Susan' 29 years ago (year before the Horns won the NC!). Looks like it only had a limited release, probably explains why I never heard of it. Checked Rotten Tomatoes and the score wasn't great, but it did get pretty good reviews from some of the top critics.

Apparently the basketball scenes aren't very impressive (um, no surprise there with Daryl Hannah, Wanda Sykes and Brooke Shields all in action

), but the scenes away from the court get higher marks. Will definitely check it out.
