Saw The Hobbit

Midnight 3D show at Westgate in Austin. Good flick -- not LOTR good - but very enjoyable. Beautiful movie, but a bit slapstick at times (but then again, so was the book). There are more characters from LOTR in the movie than in the book, but I'm glad they did that. You'll see what I mean. For that matter, far more departure from the book than they did with LOTR. I guess they couldn't have stretched the book into a trilogy without doing so. Gollum stole the show. I can't wait for the next installment.

I did the 48 - it definitely takes a little getting used to, but it makes a huge difference in the action scenes. They come through much more clearly, although it gives the film a very bright feel that seems odd in the theater.

Slow start to the movie, but overall it was very enjoyable. Could have done without the unnecessary Frodo cameo at the beginning - made it seem a little uneven. Is Bilbo starting the movie by narrating to Frodo or reading the book he is writing? And why is he explaining to Frodo about hobbits?

Thumbs up here. Very good movie for the Christmas season. Really looking forward to the next installments.

Saw the Hobbit in 3D. Don't ask me which one, don't know. I intended to see "regular" version, but didn't get to theatre on time. There were maybe six people in the theatre on Fri. afternoon.

I enjoyed it. It was like watching a 4th installment of LOTR in a lot of ways; Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond, and others return from the LOTR series. It is a beautiful movie.

Since I never read the book, it didn't seem "stretched out" to me, which is the most common complaint I've heard. Jackson kept the dragon's appearance a secret, only showing feet, eyes, and nostrils. Once the action starts rolling, about an hour into the movie, it is pretty much nonstop.

Go see it.
