...and really enjoyed it, much more than I expected that I would.

My wife disliked it almost totally, much more I would have expected, suspected or detected had I not asked her.

It was long and the fact that I was able to watch it at home, where I could pause it at my convenience, doubtless contributed to my favorable opinion.

My wife says she developed no interest in and felt no sympathy for the characters, disliked Brad Pitt's voice and accent and thought it was a rehash of several movies that she and I agreed it brought to mind.

I looked favorably upon those cinematic similarities and she didn't:

The nostalgia reminded us both of "The Way We Were."

We found the scope of the movie and the narration like "Forrest Gump."

We agreed the sadness and tragedy in the love story and the inevitable result of Benjamin's condition were comparable to the outcome of "Titanic."

The overall vibe and style were reminiscent to me of "Little Big Man" and to her of "Fried Green Tomatoes."

We each did see the other's point about this flick and those two being similar.

I wish I'd had subtitles available to help me get all the dialogue and she said she would have rather heard nothing and simply watched the pretty pictures with the sound off.

I thought the cinematography, locations, set decoration and special effects made the pictures pretty too, but I also liked the screenplay, the direction and the overall movie making.

We've agreed to reconcile our differences and start watching "Frost/Nixon."

While I think Wall-e is the best film of the year, I'll go with Benjamin Button as the best of the ones nominated.

Excellent movie across the board: acting, direction, screenplay, cinematography...an all-around great movie.

That said, Wall-E > Benjamin Button. I actually think Man on Wire (documentary) deserves a best picture nomination.

I went with a bunch of folks, including a couple of young mothers. They couldn't get over how sad it was that Benjamin couldn't play with the other kids. I tried to give a counterpoint that the movie allowed for an interesting way to look at humanity and how we are trapped by our conventions and expectations. I gotta say I loved the comic relief in the guy continously getting struck by lightning.
