....and we thought it was OK.

My wife and I enjoyed it in 2D, but for us it didn't have the punch of the first movie featuring this younger cast.

There wasn't anything special or noteworthy or new or of enduring value, IMHO.

And except for being the next installment of a beloved franchise I've faithfully followed, I wouldn't have liked it as much as I did.

There is good character development, humor, honor, logic, gut feelings, loyalty, friendship, revenge and plenty of action, including both space battles and fist fights.

And because it is the latest offering from that franchise (with all the characters, characteristics, style and storyline so familiar), we were very well entertained and at times even moved, but certainly not overly impressed and definitely never wowed.

However, we did feel at home and involved

I think its well worth seeing by Star Trek fans and other viewers for completeness, continuity and exciting cinema, but it might disappoint the most ardent and/or adventurous of Trekkies with its sameness even while satisfying others who aren't looking for more.

Because, IMO, this flick pretty much "boldly" goes exactly and only where we've all watched the USS Enterprise and her crew go many times before.

Your opinion?

Going in, I was skeptical about what JJ was doing with this sequel. You saw the other spaceship in the trailers and you just felt like it wasn't a "Star Trek" type spaceship. It looked more warship than starship in the trailers. Roddenberry hadn't written a universe where the federation was about war, but of exploration, but i was somewhat satisfied by how it all came about.

Chris Pine comes across a bit childish when he gets angry in this flick, but otherwise, does a fine job.

The spots of humor were really great.

I could tell a few people around me, along with myself, figured out the big reveal well before the actual big reveal. There were 1-2 subtle clues.

This movie concentrates on the Kirk/Spock relationship, but i could always use more of Bones. The whole Uhura/Spock relationship still feels unnecessary.

Cumberbatch is a star. that guy is going to go places.

I'd really like to see another movie really deal with the Klingons, now that we get more of a taste of them.

Not a huge Trekkie fan but I do enjoy the universe. I hope JJ fares well with the Star War movies. This has got to be some kind of sacrilege with one director taking the helm of both Star Trek AND Star Wars. Wow.....

I enjoyed it - a little preachy in terms of the post-9-11 war machine condemnation (which was there in Iron Man III as well - is this going to be a pattern all summer?) But it was definitely fun, great effects, and Cumberbunch is definitely a great villain!

I just saw it too. A lot of the action is over the top and probably outside the vision of anything Roddenberry ever dreamed up but you have to expect that from a franchise reboot. I also just realized that Khan was "Wrath of Khan" from the original Star Trek 2 which was a childhood fave of mine. Is it me or does the Enterprise get destroyed or on the verge of destruction in every Star Trek movie?? Tbey always roll out a new one... NC-1701 dash whatever in the series of Enterprises. It would seem to me that would be an unlucky name for a starship if it keeps getting destroyed. lol oh well...
I enjoyed it for the popcorn movie it is.
