..........with my wife and we were reasonably well-entertained by and enjoyed the decent acting and the sexual campiness even though, IMHO, this isn't a very good movie.
For other viewers, however, it might be just what they are wanting or needing to see.
The Link
The theater in our small town's multiplex was nearly full for the late 9:35 showing on this opening night and I was one of only about three males in the whole audience.
The eager females that filled all the other seats for this "R" rated movie were mainly ages 17-25 (with the audiences depicted in the movie being just somewhat older) and they seemed pleased to see what they saw while I got about what I expected and probably deserved, but much less than I'd wishfully hoped for from director Steven Soderbergh.
This flick wasn't as nearly good cinematically as "The Full Monty" or "Boogie Nights," IMO, however there was a lot of suggestive, but actually pretty tame (although clever, enthusiastic and well-received) male stripping and sex act simulation on stage plus some male and female nudity off stage in the film.
The young girls in our auditorium were laughing, texting, talking and enjoying the shared experience with their female friends.
Good for them.
I'm generally in favor of female stimulaton.
The on screen story was what I found lacking.
For me, it ranked about at the level of either version of "Footloose," certainly with lots more raunch and bareness of haunch, but unfortunately having little else to offer.
The acting was fine, however, and the music was good too, but I found the storyline sorely lacking with nothing much in the script, besides the dancing, to challenge or show off the actors.
I think if real live strip shows (featuring strippers of either sex) had no more to offer than did this less than memorable flick, then there would be little continuing demand for such entertainment after any interested patrons had been a few times.
JMO.
