……from director Woody Allen via NETFLIX and I enjoyed it.

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!

I have seen every movie that Woody Allen’s ever made, some more and some less, and I've enjoyed them all, more or less.

For me, this one falls into the less, rather than into the more grouping.

Lovely scenery, fine set decoration, interesting cinematography, decent acting, fast and witty dialog, competent direction and lively period music.

But stagey (yet effective) production, slow (but pleasing) pace, a trite (even belabored) story line, some uneven casting and, of course, this film doesn’t offer Woody Allen in an on screen starring role.

IMO, this Allen flick compares quite favorably and very nicely with “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” specifically because of its optimism and sudden happy ending.

That 1985 Woody flick isn’t one which ranks very highly for me.

So, take this half-hearted endorsement and run, but don’t drink the water.

“Magic in the Moonlight” recalled “My Fair Lady” for me, with Colin Firth channeling Rex Harrison just a bit.

Of course, that fine musical movie had much better songs and more dancing.

Very, very, very, very, very, very, very highly recommended for those of you who’ve seen all 50 or so films the Woodman has previously directed.

‘Cause otherwise, you won’t be able to say that anymore.

Duh.

Currently working for me.

For viewers who aren’t anal about Allen, it will be hit or miss.

However, if you appreciated “Midnight in Paris,” “Blue Jasmine” or “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” perhaps give it a try.

Could be worth a rental, if you’ve nothing better, maybe.
