Saw 'I Do'........

......, also listed as “I Do: How to Get Married and Stay Single” or ”Prete-Moi Ta Main” by its original title.

It’s a quite excellent and very watchable French romantic comedy offered with English subtitles and is one of the very best chick flicks I’ve ever seen.

If you can accept that varied cinematic “baggage,” I really think many viewers (both female and male) would find this movie enjoyable and worthwhile.

I highly recommend it.

It came to me via NETFLIX.

This film was well-conceived, nicely realized and as excellent a movie, in this particular genre, as was (IMHO) “Pretty Woman.”

Smart, informative, delicious and delightful.

“I Do” stars Alain Chabat, whom I didn’t know of previously, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, whom I saw portraying the title role in both the William Hurt version of “Jane Eyre” and Volumes 1 & 2 of “Nymphomaniac.”

A fine script, good acting, nice scenery and believable characters all add to this film, which involves some sexy talk but no overt behavior.

Ladies, watch this movie anyway that you choose, but viewing it along with a guy you believe to be worth your attention is what I might suggest.

Men, I don’t expect you to view this movie alone; watch it with your best girl.

Myself, I enjoy chicks a lot and I dig seeing a good chick flick with a chick that I like.

I just watched this DVD all alone, but I’ll make sure my sweet wife and dear daughter each get the chance to see it before I mail it back.

And I’ll probably watch it again, partially for a reason I’ll mention below when I get there in a while.

So, what I’m saying is, give this movie a chance if it piques your cinematic interest or purposes at all.

You know, I attended Texas A&M when there were no girls anywhere around and I didn’t enjoy that particular part of Aggieland much at all.

Right off, I noticed no available girls were available on campus and available me certainly missed that availability being available.

Despite enjoying my Aggie collegiate experience very much, I missed females a lot.

Now, of course, hot members of the opposite sex are right there on campus and cold beer is just across the street; so have fun young Ags.

Vive la difference!

Back then, I made up for this lack of sexual diversity by applying myself scholastically, studying and playing hard and then by enjoying female company on weekends, each summer and during every holiday, the very, very, very most I could.

And now, because I still enjoy female company so much, watching a good male/female relationship movie in the company of a fine female is for me time very well-spent.

So I recommend this one as a worthwhile movie for anyone who enjoys the opposite sex and/or a good relationship comedy which rings true.

Oh yeah, the only problem I had while watching this otherwise very satisfying movie, I’ll note right now:

The intelligent and crisp French dialog sometimes moved so quickly and naturally, especially during ensemble scenes, that my reading of so many English subtitled words made it a bit hard to follow exactly who was saying what on screen.

And I’m sure some nuances of expressive acting escaped my ever shifting eyesight, whilst I read those necessary translations.

That’s only a little complaint and I’ll largely overcome this problem when I watch it again.

I expect any Frenchman, watching a fast-paced Woody Allen American movie, subtitled in his own native language, could have the same problem.

Just a quibble about what was otherwise a very, very, very good movie viewing experience, IMO.

Quelqu'un a vu il?
