.......via NETFLIX and, for me, it was entertaining and worthwhile.
The Link
I believe it's Philip Seymour Hoffman's final movie and also features busty Christina Hendricks, Richard Jenkins, Eddie Marsan, John Turturro and Peter Gerety.
The gritty, nuanced and realistic vibe here reminded me of Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson's "Out of the Furnace."
This movie won't be for everyone, but if you enjoyed the character interaction and the overall darkness of Sean Penn's "Mystic River," Robert Mitchum's "The Friends of Eddie Coyle," Steve Buscemi's "Trees Lounge" or Sidney Lumet's "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," which also started off with Hoffman banging a co-star, you might give this grubby, black, downbeat flick a viewing.
The cast is pretty much flawless, however I found the storytelling to be flawed.
It was pretty short in running time and I believe Mad Man John Slattery's first directorial effort could have used more back story and/or character development and that a little better defined and/or refined screenplay could have helped.
But the characters and the acting performances were very good to excellent, IMO.
Recommended for those who'd like to give it a try on a slow night.
Anyone seen it?
