An exciting story, great special effects and exceptional cinematography.

Out-armored, out-gunned and out-numbered, Brad Pitt as Sherman tank commander Wardaddy leads his four man crew on the final push into Germany during WWII.

Gritty, grim, visceral, heroic, bloody and action filled, this movie shows for tank warfare what "Das Boot" did for underwater combat and what "Paths of Glory" and "Saving Privater Ryan"" did for infantry assault.

Not for the faint of heart, the vainglorious or viewers unappreciative of realism, this tells and shows one cinematic view of what Hell on Wheels really was..

It's not like "Rambo," "The Dirty Dozen, John Wayne, the excellent "Sergeant York" or most other Hollywood war movies.

There's no big picture and no back story, because this sanguine flick all happens within or near a single tank

There's no biting satire like in "Inglourious Basterds" and no one over or under portrayed anything, IMHO.

There are a few thoughtful and/or lighter moments, but nothing really goes well or ends well in war.

If you don't die, all you can hope for is to do your duty, fight with purpose and that it will end with victory for your side.

Mostly this movie is rumble, rumble, rumble; clank, clank, clank; bang, bang, bang and boom, boom, boom and that was a very good screenplay for me.

With believable characters and realistic situations, this film showed war as it should be truly depicted.

Thanks and kudos to all those who fought and served.

Highly recommended to those viewers who want to, need to or should know.

Anybody seen it?

FF, haven't seen it, just wanted to give you a nod for your movie critiques on Hornfans over the years now that the site is winding down. Always enjoyed your perspective.
Good luck to ya.

I saw it a week or so ago and really liked it; though not up there in Saving Private Ryan territory, it was definitely worth the outrageous price I paid for tickets and popcorn, Cokes etc. Some of the battle scenes had me gripping the armrest as hard as I could.
However...SPOILER AHEAD
...

The one suspend-disbelief moment in the film for me was near the end when the German soldier drops two, count 'em, TWO grenades just two feet away from Brad Pitt's character. In spite of the close proximity of the grenades and the fact that the explosion went off in an enclosed space (his tank), we see Pitt's corpse with just a trickle of blood on his face. Not that I wanted to see ground hamburger, but that's what would have been left "in real life."

I want to also thank Fred for his reviews over the years.

Also big props to the above for good use of SPOILER ALERT. I almost scrolled down but saw it and zipped right past it. Thank you.

There were some head scratching moments but all in all a great war movie. The action was pretty brutal but war isn't pretty. This is a top 10 war movie for me. The cast was outstanding and I think the director brought out the best performances in all of them. I'd definitely see it again.
