Starring Melissa Leo, familiar as the feisty red-headed female detective in TV's "Homicide: Life on the Street," in a good Oscar nominated Best Leading Actress performance.
This is a grim, gritty story about hard times and smuggling across the iced over St. Lawrence River between New York and Quebec.
Remembering the more southern border story that won the best picture award just last year, I'll nick-name this flick "Cold Country for Desperate Housewives."
Don't let my silliness turn you off, I think it's a worthwhile rental, if you remember liking the vibe of "Silkwood" with Cher and Meryl Streep and/or Charize Theron and Frances McDormand in "North Country."

Melissa Leo may indeed go on to more big screen success, but I suspect the leading actress Oscar will go elsewhere this year.
However, we were certainly entertained enough to enjoy Melissa's performance and recommend this movie as a serviceable rental.
