.......with my wife and despite understanding what these movie makers were trying to do, we didn't care for this one.

It's Oscar-nominated as Best Picture this year, but it's a movie I could have skipped that's based on a book I wouldn't choose to read.

Spoilers ahead!!!!!!!

Max von Sydow as a mute is excellent: balanced, nuanced, believable and not over bearing and he's nominated as Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal.

All the rest of and in the film seemed to me either overdone or underdeveloped.

At times this motion picture was touching, emotional and moving, but.....

It was too sentimental, too abrasive, too long, too wordy, mawkish, insipid, heavy-handed, not fleshed out and, for me, unreal and unbelievable.

Pretty piano music playing as victims of 9/11 fall from the twin towers was more than I care to allow or countenance in my remembrance of that tragic day.

I, like all of us, watched it as it actually happened on live TV and I simply wasn't in the target audience for what I thought was an artificial and contrived interpretation of those events and this particular afterstory.

If you go, please let us know what you think.
