Saw 'Elysium'.....

...... and I thought it was worth the $6 ticket price this senior paid, but I won't need to see it twice.

In fact, I didn't really even need to see it once.

The Link

This movie had decent special effects, but they weren't spectacular IMHO.

The screenplay was OK, but I thought both "Oblivion" and "Prometheus" had more interesting beginnings and better potential story lines until each of those movies gradually lost momentum going on to less memorable and/or more disappointing revelations and denouements than what I had hoped for or expected.

"Elysium" was either preachy or truthful (take your choice) about how the people of Earth have coped with or failed to solve (again, take your choice) environmental decay, population increase, immigration issues, income disparity, health care distribution and other worldly problems which are polarizing our country and the entire planet.

As for acting, Matt Damon was serviceable, but Jodie Foster was pretty much wasted, IMO.

Recommended to anyone who doesn't need to save the price of admission for something more worthwhile.

NIce review Fred. Did you like the director's previous movie, District 9? I might go catch a daytime showing of this movie because I'm a sucker for sci-fi movies. Thanks for the review.

I saw "District 9" and enjoyed it less.

I'll hold off on future Neill Blomkamp movies until I've read some reviews.

I might have liked his latest better if more of Elysium had been featured.

"District 9,* "Cloverfield," "Pacific Rim" and "Man of Steel" are four sci fi movies that I could have skipped.

I even enjoyed "Battleship" more.

I liked District 9.

I thought Elysium made the rich folks a little too flat - black and white portrayal which I don't think served the message well.

4 out of 10. Wife enjoyed it more than I did.

I had a different take than Joe Fan in that I did not think it was socialist at all; he poses problems we face but does not offer any solutions at all; letting everybody in LA go to the spaceship just makes the spaceship a disaster area as well. He highlights what it is like to be on the losing side of the class war but does not suggest how things could be different.

I liked it in that he is saying this is the way we are headed if we don't find some answers; I also liked it that he did not offer some pat solution of his own. And I agree that is the way we are headed. The slum scenes were filmed in actual slums in Mexico City

The movie was disappointing. Completely agree on Foster and needed more development of Elysium.

I didn't realize it had the same director as District 9. Love the latter movie but now I can see the similarities in the cinematography.
