.., enjoyed it and thought it was a very good movie.

The Link

I liked it more than either "Hunger Games" flick or the film version of "Ender's Game."

I've not read any of the books those motion pictures are based upon and so I have no opinion about how good the film adaptations were compared to the written word.

But as stand alone movies I found the two starring Jennifer Lawrence a little silly and overly melodramatic for my taste and the "Ender's Game" movie doubtless was targeted at current video game players instead of an incredibly otherwise experienced 70 year old sci fi moviegoer like me.

That's OK, those offerings found and satisfied their audiences.

But "Divergent," with a similar story to tell, was a cinematic experience right down my alley.

I would rate it up there with 1951's "The Day the Earth Stood Still," 1953's "The War of the Worlds" and 1956's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

That's going pretty far back into my massive movie memory banks.

I enjoyed watching it as much as the Shakespearean story about "Forbidden Planet" with its Freudian monster from the Id, seen way back in 1956 when I was 13.

And that was long before I'd read anything by the Bard of Avon, whoever he really was, or could probably spell psychiatry.

I also thought "Divergent" was as imaginatively creative as whichever living dead/zombie movie you pick as the best.

It was, IMO, better realized cinema than "Soylent Green."

And more interesting for me than all the best parts of any of the "Planet of the Apes" films combined.

"Divergent" captured my science fiction fancy as much as or more than any of the scientific fantasy flicks I've mentioned.

I thought it was an very good movie and recommend it, especially to fans of the genre.

If you didn't like it, that's cool.

But I did.

Your thoughts?

I read the books, and thought they did a decent job of translating the first one to the screen. One major difference:

*************spoiler alert***************************

Four was running the simulation at the end of the book, not just providing security, as he did in the movie...

I actually enjoyed it myself. I imagine this is going to be another hit book to film franchise. I thought the casting for the lead actress was perfect. I noticed that she was the same lead actress in "Fault in our stars" and I enjoyed that as well.

I found this one incredibly formulaic and predictable. I don't see what the big deal is - at all. As for the lead actress, I do think she's got some acting skills, but neither Fault in Our Stars nor Divergent really gave her much to work with.
