.....and found it to be very good movie making, but certainly not a film suited for everybody's viewing.

Lots of nudity, sex and drug use, plus it features transsexuality, homosexuality, AIDS, good and bad things about doctors, hospitals, policemen and the Federal Drug Administration plus a little bit of rodeo bull riding.

The Link

This slice of life movie (based on a true story) is nominated for 6 Oscars.

It's up for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay (directly written for the screen), Best Editing and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

I thought the acting was excellent and the storyline well-realized and revealing.

Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto each transformed their usual on screen appearance almost completely to deliver their fine thespian performances.

This film reminded me somewhat of the expose aspects in "Silkwood" or "Erin Brockovich" and of the sad drama in "Precious" and "Philadelphia."

If you find "Dallas Buyers Club" to your liking, you might also enjoy director Pedro Almodovar's 1999 flick "All About My Mother (Todo Sobre Mi Madre)."

The Link

It won a golden statuette from the Academy for Best Foreign Language Film.

Any thoughts?

It wasn't to my liking but I thought it was a good movie with great acting and interesting. Remembering back on that time and how crazy all the news every day was about aids. It just isn't something I would watch again anytime soon.

We watched it tonight and damn, I didn’t even know that was Jared Leto. What a great supporting role he played.

Matthew M was fantastic. I don’t know how he got into that condition but he looked every bit the part of a very sick man.

Not a feel good story for sure but a solid film, imo.

I watched tonight. I thought that throughout the movie, you would probably not recognize MM or Leno unless you knew they were in it. They were both great. The movie did show how many doctors wher handcuffed by the Federal Government in treating patients. This is still true today. I agree with the film - if someone has a terminal disease they and their doctors should be able to try anything.
