....a 2006 AMC original movie miniseries starring Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church.

The Link

Got it from NETFLIX and thought it was pretty good.

It's not "Lonesome Dove," but it's equal to (or at least longer than} "Open Range."

And it's "Deadwood" without all the cursing in iambic pentameter, as delicious as that dialog was.

It's a celebration of Western life, times and values, probably both accurate and revisionist, with well-photographed frontier scenery plus realistic male and female bonding, as all that was showcased in "Appaloosa," this time without Renee Zellwiger in the cast.

With Robert Duvall cast yet again as a worldly wise, crusty, aging cowboy on a trail drive that soon turns into a multitasking endeavor and with Church as his younger nephew/partner, that's a good thing.

Duvall, of course, can do no wrong purposefully wandering through a Western on horseback, dealing with various crises or conundrums or just sitting around a campfire talking and Church is also excellent as he learns from the master.

This is typecasting and plot device reuse at its very best, IMHO; Duvall and Church both won Emmys.

It's an entertaining movie, depicting American history, in the moviemaking style of "How The West Was Won," even though the storyline does begin to resemble the complexity of Moses in the wilderness and the inclusiveness of Noah and his Ark.

I think Augustus McRae and Woodrow F. Call would probably have enjoyed living this 3 hour long miniseries about as much as I did watching.

Anyone seen it?

I loved it, and I am not a fan of westerns OR Lonesome Dove (LD bored me to tears, and the ONLY reason I watched it is because I think Robert Duvall is the best actor on this or any other planet).

But I thought Broken Trail was very good.
