IMHO, Tom Hanks is today's equal to Jimmy Stewart for his overall versatility, thespian credits, acting chops and his many fine portrayals of a common man meeting the demands of uncommon situations.

My wife and I enjoyed it a lot, but we don't have an over abundance of confidence about recommending it to general viewers under the age of 40 or thereabouts.

This movie's interesting true tale is quite well-realized and nicely told, but it follows the realistic movie making and story telling patterns of "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" or either version of "Tinker Soldier Sailor Spy."

Just as spy craft actually was during the Cold War.

Lots of tense maneuvering and plenty of (interesting to me) procedural stuff, but not that much explosive action.

Personal posturing and brinkmanship, rather than overt violence and blood, was the overall theme.

With the constant threat of nuclear attack and atomic retaliation always very present.

No bare skin or sex at all and no pointy brassieres were featured in this otherwise extremely accurate 1950's production design.

The rounded Maidenform bra shape was all I saw.

Technology savvy folks of today will doubtless notice and possibly be disheartened/dismayed by all the cool gadgets we didn't yet have.

Flash bulbs, B&W TV, newspapers and dial phones were all that was available.

We made do with transistor portable radios, U2 spy planes and atom bombs.

And with rotary fans instead of AC.

I have vivid and nice memories of those long ago "ancient" times, but (believe me) the good old days are right now.

Plan to see it over the weekend. Was intrigued from the previews and especially after reading your feedback.
