probably see a story on the selection late tonight or tomorrow morning.
Game preview likely to be out Friday, maybe Thursday.
I hope I'm wrong about the timeline cuz I want to read more about the matchups.
The two teams are pretty similar in height with their C having 95 blocks for the season, 70 more than the next closest. Their best PG coming into the season, Sr. Marneshia Richard, isn't showing at all in the stats so I assume she got hurt before the season started. Can't find anything on that. News releases only got back through Feb that I can find out. They play basically eight players. Horns match up well in size. We'll see how else they matchup. MS is going to be tough. 22-9 overall, 8-4 on the road, and 2-1 on neutral courts. They went 2-1 against LSU, 0-2 against Tenn (close losses), lost by 7 to Maryland, lost by five to Auburn and beat Vandy. They averaged 68 ppg overall but only 61 ppg in the SEC. They gave up 55 ppg overall but 59 in the SEC. That two pt. winning edge in the SEC is pretty slim. They were 8-6 in SEC play. Horns faced at least comparable competition in the Big 12. I would favor the Horns simply because I think Texas is a better perimeter shooting team but their 6-5 C will be a load for our posts. She will clog up the middle. Horns will have to either pass to the side she is not covering or pull up for the short jumper before she can react to block the shot. Of course, they will face similar problems with our Ashleys who have blocked 71 shots (Lindsey) and 58 (Gayle). Should be a nailbiter.
The thing that concerns me about Miss St is that they competed in a tough conference just like our team. So hard nose defense and every game counts is not new to them. It should be a great game.
MS St played withn 7 of Maryland at Maryland and also played within 5 points to Auburn. They have wins over Vandy and LSU? We better not take them lightly just because we are a 6 seed and they are an 11.
TxtoCO - I absolutely agree. It's tourny time and no one can be overlooked. The moment you overlook them is the moment your team might be heading home.
My favorite time of year but also a sad time of year because I know it will all be over in a few weeks and we will go back to waiting for the next season to begin. I am not nearly as big a fan of the WNBA as I am NCAA basketball, but at least it is a bit of a pacifier until the NCAAs start up again.
I was just looking at the MS website and saw a pic of their 6-5 center, Chanel Mokango. She seems as slender as Lindsey. That could be a good matchup for Lindsey--someone similar in build that she can bang with.
Hmmmm....as much as I like Michelle Voepel, she apparently has no faith in Texas....
The link to her blog posted on another thread intimates she doesn't think we'll even get out of the first round....
I'm hoping the Texas team we know is capable of kickin' some serious butt shows up....I do not want to end this season on an embarrassing note!!
Are they going to be streaming this so that when they cut away to another game I can watch the rest of the game online like I had to do with the men's game last night?
