Link? I don’t have the LHN so I usually have to wait until someone uploads it to YouTube. I don’t understand why Texassports.com doesn’t immediately add it to the site.

This guy is as level headed, under control, confident, genuine, humble and understated as I think I have ever seen. Can’t remember anyone like him.

Interesting. One difference to me — now, very early in his tenure — is that Sark has a personality and can smile. Landry was stoic.

Walt Garrison’s great line:

“Hey, Walt, have you ever seen Coach Landry smile?” Walt said, “No. But I’ve only been here nine years.”
I once had a chance to interview Garrison working for a community paper around here. He told a story about a time after his retirement he and his wife were waiting for a spot to open up in a nice Dallas restaurant. Landry spotted him and motioned for him to come dine with he and Alicia. Respecting Landry, he accepted, but told his wife... this isn't going to be much fun. They sat down for a thoroughly enjoyable meal and conversation. Garrison mentioned to Landry that his warmth seemed surprising compared to what he had experienced as a player. Landry explained that in the businesslike NFL he kept a distance from players to be sure personal relations didn't get in the way of personnel decisions.

What is wrong with Sark? How does he expect to be successful? The entire press conference, he never once rolled his eyes, he was never once dismissive of the question. he gave complete answers to every question.

Does he understand that this type of behavior hasn't been seen in Austin in some time, and it will prevent him getting a $15 million buyout?

Well... to be fair competitive guys are irritated coming off opening game losses.... something that it seems like Strong and Herman had to deal with a lot. Also, Sark doesn't trip himself up by overthinking a question... something Tom did routinely.

Sark doesn't snark. But Tom did - a lot.

So far the press has asked Sark pretty decent questions, and they have been respectful. In turn they have received respectful and thorough answers. With TH, you could tell they would ask questions to get under his skin because he treated them as if they were complete dumbasses.

Now with Bohls and Ed Clements that is an understandable way to treat them... But Herman just had to fight his little petty battles with pretty much all the reporters except Craig Way, and the press got tired of it and decided to fire back.

Let's see how the tone of the questions and answers may change with Sark after a loss instead of a nice win.

30 combat missions in a B17 over Europe and Germany in WW2 might have something to do with it. Until the P51 came along the Germany flights were suicide missions.

Walt was having a few beer with a friend of mine a couple of years back in a bar close by and someone started to say bad things about Landry. My friend had to restrain Walt from going after the guy over the negative comments.

We can only hope Sark has the character traits of one Tom Landry. If so, he will serve UT well.

There have been other comments tby Landry"s players through the years that show their affection for him. The stoic persona with the public was probably smart

Until really recently I wouldn't have said Saban had personality either

The general tone of a press conference is of course going to be different after a loss. Especially if that loss comes to a team considered inferior. But that doesn't mean the coach has to become defensive and arrogant. A mature coach will acknowledge the loss, the reasons for it, and own it. I suspect Sark will get his chance to show us that side at some point this season. I'd be surprised if he disappoints.

So, I watched the Sark press conference a second time.

I missed the first time him mentioning on 9-11 he had a cousin that did not make it out of the South Tower. Very sad....

During the second viewing, I think he remembers far more plays, players and situations after the game than Mensa ever did.

He seems more football analytical with examples than TH in a post game press conference IMHO.

I really like him, his presence, his approach and what he says. What he says has meaning... it's not sound bites for the media or coach speak.

Landy was a WW2 vet. He saw some real ****. I bet that affected his personality.

First time in a long time I was able to watch an entire presser. I thought the questions about 9-11 were strange, but he answered appropriately. I like how he identified weakness without calling out individual players. His grasp of the game and his communication style was great. He is a fabulous representative of the University so far. Let’s see how he fields inevitable The Eyes questions next week. Any reporter asking should be barred from future pressers.

What are the Overs & Unders for Chip Brown or Kirk Bohls?

BTW, Bianco should think about shortening the pressers. Just under 20 minutes would have eliminated most of the redundant “why Card” questions a week ago.
