i'm spending 3 nights in santa monica thu - sun. need suggestions on restaurants and things to do, places to see. thanks.

A couple places I really like to eat:

Father's Office - known for their Spanish-style burgers, which are incredible. They've got a great selection of beers on tap and really good sweet potato fries. A bit expensive for a burger and beer joint, but it's definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had.

The Counter - Another burger joint, again, very good. Usually really busy, but you can customize your burger to the tee. A thinner patty than Father's Office, but equally good. Their horseradish aioli is ******* awesome.

Dagwood's Pizza - I love this place. Badass pesto. It's in Venice, but not far from SM at all.

I realize you might be looking for a more sit-down place, but those are a few places that came to me off the top of my head. Let me know what else you might be interested in and I'll fill you in as best I can.

I've been to Rusty's Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier.

It's really there but I don't actually recommend it.

I will recommend Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles.

It's not in Santa Monica, but the one on Pico isn't far.

The Link

It's tasty soul food, straight out of Sanford & Son.

If you like seafood, check our the Reel Inn down on the 3rd St promenade. In fact, even if you don't like seafood, you can pretty much find anything down in that general area.

Check out the

Santa Monica Pier

I had the best time on the pier last time I was in Santa Monica. Check it out during sunset or the beach next to it. It's pretty sweet.

Also, you may want to check out the Third Street Promenade to shop or eat.

Finn McCools Irish Pub off Main St. is suppose to be pretty cool to visit as well.

thanks for all the restaurant suggestions. we'll go to some and give you a review.

now what about bars? my wife and i are mid 30s. what are good trendy bars in the area. thanks.

if you're stuck in santa monica, there are some good bars / restaurants on main st. i'm a hollywood snob, so i don't have the best info for the westside. but bay cities is the noise. i've been an addict for years. if it's your kind of thing, it's the perfect store to go fill a picnic basket - great sandwiches, wine, cheese, etc. then you could go sit in the grass by the beach. your wife would probably like that.

if you're into hotel bars, there are several down there with nice bars and great breakfasts. casa del mar, shutters, the viceroy.
