Weekend getaway with the wife. Money is no object on this trip. Any recommendations?

Right now we are looking at Inn of the Anasazi.

As for dining, the bride doesnt like spicy so I need alternatives.

We want to be outside almost all day so any recommendations that way are welcome.

Walk the State Capitol building. It has an outstanding art collection that you can see for free.
You really need to try Cafe Pasqual's, and DO get a reservation. Not spicy.

The LaFonda is a great hotel with good food. Also, check out the French Pastry Shop, located in the LaFonda and order some blueberry crapes with a dry cappuccino. Geronimo Lodge, The Bull Ring, and the Pink Adobe are all good restaurants. I don't know if "The Shed" is still open but they used to have great blue corn enchiladas.

We stayed at La Posada Spa for part of our honeymoon. It was very nice and very private, even though the square is a short walk away:

La Posada de Santa Fe

Try the eggs (or breakfast burrito) with green chile sauce for breakfast. You will see God.

Ditto on The Shed -- great fun and good food. Kind of a dive, but worth seeking out.

we went there on our honeymoon and stayed at the La Posada. On return trips, we have stayed at the La Fonda. Both are great places.

hang out on the square, goto the old churches, walk through all of the wonderful art museums, goto a play, go hiking in the Sangre de Cristo national forest, ski if you can, eat, eat and eat! blue corn is a great casual place. but there are tons of wonderful restaurants there. not spicy is the only bad thing as it doesnt mix well with New Mexican cuisine.

it is one of my favorite cities.

It is so weird to see places I take for granted so loved by people. I lived in SF from 5th to 12th grade and moved back to Tx to finish HS. I was born in Tx and visited often and lived here for my first four years of school.

But SF is where I spent most of my time, I guess. I used to hang out in La Fonda as friends worked there. Up until a few years ago I always stayed there free if I needed to. Usually to take a girl while in HS or when taking them to my folks place was not an option. Not bad for a date!

I always like the Shidoni Foundry. I used to skip school and hang out there. It was one of many places to include Hyde Park, Camel Tracks, Bandelier, Nambe or the mountains.

I remember when Pasqual's was new and there was always a seat. Shoko, same thing. This is why when I warn y'all about Ten Thousand Waves, trust me. I am sure they use lots of chemicals and that is a good thing!!!

I was just up in Santa Fe twice over the last month, spanning 13 days total. I am so lucky to have family and friends so my lodging and eating costs are nothing unless I want to pay for a meal.

I suggest Castro's. There is one on Cerrillos and another on Rodeo, just north of the old Villa Linda Mall, er, Santa Fe Place as it is lamely called now. Castro's is just as good as La Choza but it is cheaper and there is no line or crowd. Portions are maybe bigger too.

The Rodeo Road location is going to close in a couple of months and thier Cerrillos Rd. location will be open past the breakfast and lunch it is open for now. It will serve dinner.

I suggest the Chicharon Burrito, Christmas. The combo of red and green chile is the way to go if you want two different tastes. I am making some red chili this week and it will go on eggs, meat and anything else I can put it on. I am going to make a run in a few months for some bags of Chimayo Chile to be roasted. If you want a bag, get me the money and I will bring it down. The car will smell like chili, that is for sure.

By the way -- go to 10,000 waves. Reserve a private hot tub (they are outdoor) followed by a couples massage.

Santa Cafe is upscale, and has non-spicy dishes on the menu.

Ditto Harry's Roadhouse -- locals' refuge from pretention/$$$

Private patio table for 2 at The Compound off Canyon Road a guaranteed wife-pleaser.

One of the best breakfasts I ever ate was at Tia Sophia. It's in the Plaza. Unbelievably good breakfast taco and pancakes. Damn that was yummy.

I would recommend the Tent Rocks National Monument. It's in between ABQ and Santa Fe. Stunning. You can make it a 2-3 hike if you go to the top.

I am hoping to revive this thread in anticipation of ski season. My family (well 6-10 of us) are going the day after christmas for 4 days. We aren't terrible rich, so we would like to stay close to $100 a night, for a double bed room. We are also considering renting a condo or something that might have 3-4 rooms in it, but i've never done that so I wouldn't know where to look.

Also, any recommendations on rentals?
