I'm going to the evening games because I'm back at work. Yeah me! LOL!
I'm going to check at Empress of course and then there's a freshman named Ashley Hearn, Bishop Lynch, center 6' 3". Let me know if I should check out anyone else.
It looks like Duncanville won the first two contests, 76-28 over Naaman Forest, and 72-38 over Mesquite. Empress was the high scorer in both games (16 pts vs. Naaman and 27 pts vs. Mesquite).
I didn't get to see Davenport. I'll check her out this evening. Her game was at the same time I had to watch Bishop Lynch up and coming freshman Ashley Hearn. 6' 3", lean and needs to stay in the gym to build her strength. If she stays on track she will be a force down low. She played like a freshman but showed glimpses of pure raw talent. I know her folks and she will be a great player one day. I see her becoming a Tina Charles down low in the post. She has great instinct to block but she needs to work on pursuing rebounds and her down low game. Although she already has a knack for going over her shoulder and scoring down low. And I loved that she didn't bring the ball down. She just elevated and shot. YES!! So I'm keeping my eye on her.
Moriah Jefferson is the real deal. She's the home school young lady headed to UCONN. She's a baller. Yep she's all that and a bag of chips. Towards the end of the game she injured her shoulder. I'm not for sure what the injury exactly was but it appeared like her shoulder was dislocated and then went back into place. Kind of like the shoulder injuries C. Parker, TN use to have. But I don't know so don't quote me. She has good vision, great instinct for the ball, defense nightmare and can shoot from anywhere on the court. She was playing the 1 while I watched her and I kept thinking her and Fussell next year would make a phenomenal backcourt. I would even put her at the 3, Cassie at the 1 and Fussell at the 2. OMG we would be deadly. Anyway, I know she's not coming to UT but I girl can dream, can't she!!?!? But yep MJ is a great player. And the funny thing is as I was watching her play I thought to myself she would fit well into Geno's program. I am now beginning to understand the type of players Geno recruits. As we all know everyone can't play for Geno. But this young lady you could tell strives for excellence. When she messed up she went after whomever and whatever to make up for her mistake. She was driven to get better. A slight touch of cocky arrogant confidence but you could tell she had a good work ethic to go with it.
Jordan Jones, the TA&M commit. Another baller. She was all over the court. A defensive stopper. She does this thing where she goes right at the player and takes the ball. It happens so fast they player doesn't realize it until after JJ is at the goal scoring a layup. She's dramatic so with time and maturity and Coach Blair she'll grow out of that. She will definitely be the leader that A&M needs. She reminded me of Angel McCoughtry(sp?).
If both win one more game, it looks like Davenport and Duncanville could meet THESA and Jefferson in the semis tomorrow. Duncanville will have to get by TABC 3A #2 ranked Kennendale this evening, and THESA is up against defending Louisiana 5A champion St. Thomas More at 1:30pm today.
Well Duncanville won't be meeting THESA if they get past Kennendale tongiht. THESA lost to St. Thomas More by a pretty significant margin, 61-37. Jefferson didn't have her best game and only scored 6 pts. There was a pretty big upset in that Southlake Carroll, the #17 ranked team in the country, lost to Little Rock Hall (ranked #228). I noticed that the latest national rankings released on 12-25 have both of our 2012 recruit's teams in the top 5. Windward is ranked 4th in the country after a strong showing at the Nike tournament, and Duncanville is now ranked 5th (and 1st in Texas). Nice to see our two recruits and their respective teams having good seasons thus far.
Davenport was fairly quiet last night against Kennedale. She played a solid game and her defense was still on par. Duncanville won by a large margin 77-39. Tasia Foman, #20 for Duncanville had a terrific game, 24 pts and she was all over the court.
I was able to check out Nikki and Destini Hughes' lil' sis Jaimaka Hughes. She plays for her dad on the Kennedale team. Reminds me a lot of her sis Destini who plays for LSU.
Moriah was hurt last night. Shoulder injury as a speculated yesterday.
Duncanville avenged their one loss of the year by beating Plano West 53-38 to win the tournament. And Davenport was named tourney MVP; conratulations Empress! It looks like Duncanville and Windward, Imani's team, have switched places in the latest rankings. Duncanville is now ranked #4 in the nation and Windward is #5.
