We are staying at the W hotel for the Holiday Bowl - arrive Christmas day.

Tell me about the local Casino's - how far from the hotel, which ones are the best, can I get cabs to/from easily? are there shuttles that run from downtown?

Barona is probably the closest to downtown. Not sure about shuttles, although I have seen Barona busses. Really don't know that much about it other than it's supposed to have one of the better golf courses around (im not a golfer).
Pala I know better. About 30 miles N of downtown on highway 76 off of I-15. Very vegas style casino. Slots and table games. Big. Nice. Good food. Nice eye candy by the pool when it's warm. Further east on 76 is Harrah's Rincon. Not as nice as Pala IMHO. Further up 15 is Pechanga. Comparable to Harrah's. Closer to Temecula wine country if you find that appealing.

Looks like you could take the trolley from downtown to El Cajon and catch the barona bus there. edit: hotlink didn't work. There's a transportation tab on the barona website with a shuttle schedule.
