San Diego

Ok, so Hornfans,

Me and a friend are going to San Diego and are looking to maximize a weekend trip in an expensive city. Any tips or things to do in the city? A trip to Tiajuna is a must, to let you know a little about what we like to do.

when you go to TIjuana....Do not I repeat DO NOT mess around with the cops, also don't drink the water......take cash leave your cards in the hotel, car.....as far as San Diego goes, I love it, been there 3 times, it reminds me of Austin but with a beach, the downtown area is pretty cool and the beaches are great too

Let me give you the best piece of advice possible about San Diego:
Get the hash browns breakfast burrito at Cotija's, in Pacific Beach on Garnet. It's cheap, huge, great for hangovers, and probably the best breakfast burrito in the world.

It's hard not to have a great time in San Diego.

There's a Fatburger over in the Pacific Beach area. Mmmmm. Fatburger.

I know it sounds cliched, but go to the San Diego Zoo. It is amazing. Balboa Park in general is bad ***.

If you are there during baseball season (only a week away), check out a game at Petco. It's in the heart of the Gaslamp. It's a tricked up stadium, but it is fun. Great views of the city.

Go to the Broken Yoke for breakfast in PB, just off Garnett street.
The "open bar" in PB is a local spot and if you want to do the touristy beach bar thing- go to the Wave House on Mission Beach- cant miss it.
Be sure to hit Rubio's- the original fish tacos, they are everywhere
Anywhere in the Gas Lamp district will be fun Wed- Saturday nights. The Tiki lounge is a good place to grab some tapas and drinks before hitting the bars down there.

For TJ-(Tijuana)- just head straight to Revolution Street once you walk across the border- jump into a cap, its a good walk other wise.

Go Padres!

My wife and I spend a week in San Diego every summer up in Rancho Santa Fe and hit the beach at Del Mar every day. There's a thousand things to do and the weather is usually always superb.

If you want the best shrimp burrito in the world, stop by the little taqueria on Rosecrans Street in the Rosedale area, near Point Loma. I can't remember the name but it is on the north side of Rosecrans, is about $4 and weighs about a pound and a half...tip top.

Best city in the U.S.

There's a bar at the top of the Marriott Gaslamp called Altitude. It looks right into Petco. Pretty sweet little spot.

Heading to San Diego next month for a week. My first time there - really looking forward to it. Any advice on places to stay near or on a beach? Is Pacific Beach the best one for that sort of thing?

How safe is Tijuana? What's the best way to get there, other than driving a car and parking on the US side?

Guapo,
Take the trolly and walk across the border. You won't have to worry about your car being broken into or finding parking while in TJ.

I really liked Coronado Beach. That place is gorgeous.

La Jolla is another recommendation. That part of the city is where the seals come onshore and rest before they go back to the ocean. I believe it is around that area is where they pop fireworks every night.

Old Town San Diego is pretty nice too. It had some cheap but good food.

Any recommendations for fishing? I'd prefer maybe a half or 3/4 day trip. I assume they have docks there where you can catch a boat - are these all over the place or is there a particular area where they tend to concentrate?

Thanks!

TJ is safe, take the trolley from old town San Diego or from Downtown. it takes 30 minutes. Go to Revolution Street when you cross the border, also do jump in a cab as it is about a 15min walk otherwise.

For fishing go to Point Loma one afternoon and pick up flyers for charters. This is where all the charters go out from and they go straight south to trawl the waters off Baja. You will find what you are looking for here and if you get there around 6pm when all the boat are coming in you can see the catches. There is also a market there that serves fresh fish like no other.
