San Antonio Zoo?

I haven't been in years. Is it still the best in the state? Is the summer a bad time to go (due to smells)?
 
Summer is a bad time to go because it's hot and humid. And the Tiger is on double secret probation for trying to chew off the head of an employee.
 
You may like Houston's better, and I wouldn't argue with you, but the top 4 have for a long time been considered SA, San Diego, Bronx and...? I can't remember. Maybe it is Houston.
 
The St. Louis Zoo is fantastic. I'd say it's even better than the San Diego Zoo, but that's mostly because it's easier to walk and view the animals. San Diego probably gets a lot of credit for research, etc.

I think SA is definitely down a step or two from St. Louis, but my main complaint is what a previous poster said -- it's hot. (Go figure.)
 
San Antonio's zoo is probably one of the Top 5 in the US. Of course it's SD and then everyone else. Bronx, San Diego, National, San Antonio, and somehow I always thought Cincinnati had a good zoo but I may be wrong.
 
I don't know how it might impact things, but I think SA is in the middle of a big construction project. St. Louis might have been the 4th I was thinking of or it might have even been New Orleans.
 
Last summer most of the Africa exhibits were under construction. You could still see the animals, but a lot were in temporary areas.

I was at a zoo in Norway that had cows in it. Regular dairy cows.

I went there a few months back with my 2 year old. First time I had been there since I was a kid. Was glad to see they still have those plastic animal figurine machines. That molten plastic smell brought back memories.

i had a black panther one back in the day, probably like 85
 
went with the bf for our anniversary in may, the Africa portion was still under construction but it was still really fun. Pretty much how I remembered it from going when I was a kid, and hell yes I got one of the wax figures, it was a giraffe.
 
I went to the St. Louis Zoo last Tuesday. The San Antonio Zoo just doesn't compare. If it's top 4, then St. Louis is definitely top 4.
