(Reuters) - The U.S. city of San Antonio unveiled a deal on Tuesday that will make it the first U.S. city to harvest methane gas from human waste on a commercial scale and turn it into clean-burning fuel.

Austin does this already. The Hornsby Bend Biosolids treatment plant gets most of its energy from this process.

Seems like a natural source that should have been used for many years by now. It stinks that nobody has been doing this sooner. Everyone cries about energy costs while flushing free energy down the shitter every day. You have a septic tank? There is a potential gold mine. Why not use it to fuel a generator, saving you $ off of your electric bill?
