Samsung DLP shuts off unexpectedly

I know there's at least one guy on here that can probably give me some info....

So I have a HLS5086 DLP, bought it 2.5 yrs ago new. Purchased a Tapeworks Texas extended warranty on it at the time of purchase. TV has worked very well up until the last month when it has begun shutting off unexpectedly. It can be on for a few hours then it shuts off... and it won't give me more than a few minutes of watching after that initial shut off.

The circulation is fine so it shouldn't be overheating. And after doing a little research it seems as though this is a fairly common problem. Has anybody experienced anything in regards to this? I just hope the extended warranty folks are good, first time i have ever bought an EW on a product so it should be interesting.

I have a one year only Samsung DLP that does the same thing. Always turns right back on. More annoying than anything.

DO you have Directv? As soon as I switched the problems started. I think it may have something to do with the remote.

This was happening to me on my Samsung 1080p. Under warranty, they replaced the light engine. Even replaced the lamp. Said it would cost $1600 if I did not have the warranty. Works fine ever since.

You probably need to call for them to come and clean it inside... projection tv's get really dusty inside and can cause all kinds of problems... but a good cleaning can get that fixed...

my tv does this.

have not fixed it. there is no one to "come out and clean it". can i just pop out the lamp housing and spray compressed air all inside it?

Have you tried a rest to the TV, unplug let sit for about 20 min. then start back up. 2.5 years on the set if it is set to a very bright setting, it could be the bulb fixing to go. Find out if your warranty covers the bulb and get them to send you a new one if not buy one you will need one at some point anyway. As to the cleaning of a set. Don't think I would let any one go into one of the new rear pros just to clean it. To many things can get messed up, never had an issue with a set needing to be cleaned. Make sure the unit is also plugged straight into a a surge protector or the wall not into the cable box, big mistake that we see people do as well. Hope this helps just haven't run into this issue.

I have the exact same TV and the same issue when I turn the TV on with my DirectTV remote it often comes on and then shuts off a minute later and then I turn it back on with no issues. As someone else stated it only started when I got DirectTV a couple of months ago

yea, it very well could be the fact i just got a time warner box. the tv shows no signs of 'giving' out, it just magically shuts off. ill give it a bit more time and see what comes from it. After going through a reset bout a few times yesterday it was on for a good 5 hours the rest of the day.

my samsung dlp does the same thing but i have timewarner; it's either something with the cable box or the bulb is going out; samsung customer service told me the bulb and no, I don't think that's covered under warranty unfortunately.

I had a DLP do the same thing, then when day the bulb went "pop" once I replaced it, it was like having a new TV, I did not realize how much brightness I was missing out on.
