Samsung DLP issue--humming noise, turns off, etc..

anyone have a samsung dlp? It hums the whole time it's on and periodically turns itself off randomly. Sometimes 3 times in an hour, sometimes not at all in a day.

I've done some research and the humming might be the light wheel? and the turning off might be the bulb, but I don't have a clue and it's getting highly annoying.

Isn't there a fan in those things? If so, the fan may be stuck which is causing the bulb to overheat and turn off. If you can find a fan that's not spinning, perhaps a little shot of lubricant to the bearings would fix the problem.

My Samsung periodically makes some noise and I am relatively certain that it is the fan. It goes away after a while.

how old is it? mine would turn itself off once the lamp was dying. after i replaced that it never happened again. not sure about the humming.

I had one and the buzzing noise got louder and louder until you couldn't watch it any longer. It was the color wheel. I fixed it myself as the tv repair places wanted $400 or so which was more than the set was worth at that point--it wasn't that hard and there are good instructions out there. I don't believe mine turned itself off, however.

I've had a 56" sammy dlp since summer 2004. I have had problems with funny noises on and off when the tv is in standby mode, and when it is on. For a while I had a really loud noise (maybe the color wheel?), and I resorted to cutting off the surge protector (or power supply) after the cooling fan had shut off (~30 seconds after you turn tv to standby mode) to 'reset' the tv. This actually worked with a little persistence, and I haven't had this problem in about a year or so.

I have also had more problems with the tv shutting off without warning, although the frequency of this has gone way down of late. The bulb is overheating. I consider this more of a nuisance than a problem, since the bulb has a limited lifespan. I typically just turn the tv back on when this happens.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get the same tv, although waiting 1-2 years would've saved me a fair sum.

the tv is a couple of years old..maybe I will crack it open sometime this weekend to see what's up with the wheel..
