Samsung 50' Widescreen Plasma

That is absolutely a great deal, however do you really want to camp out in front of Walmart for 8 hrs or so to have a shot at getting one?

I personally like the Pannys better, but, if this is 1080p, then this is a smoking deal. Would need to know the model # and compare to the Pannys Z80U.

You'll need to get there 12-16 hours before the store opens.

Even at 720p, this is a great deal. 1080p is overrated. You will notice a difference with a 50", but not much.

bought a Vizio 42" plasma 720p for $730 at Wal MArt 2 months ago, they had 3 in the store. No waiting in line.

Looks like an older model, but definitely hard to argue with 50 inches of flatscreen goodness for that price.

That being said...

I've never been disappointed with Samsung, and they're my favorite TV manufacturor. But I've heard that they and other manufacturors are producing cheaper models exclusively for discount stores like Wal-Mart under similar model numbers. Just what I've heard and I'm not entirely sure of it, but I fail to understand how the prices on Samsung and Sony products can be so much less at Wallly World than at Sears or Best Buy, given that manufacturor markups are supposedly less than they once were.

I would spend a little more for a 1080p set, especially since the price of blu-ray players and disks are dropping. The 720p set is good if you do not plan on upgrading to blu-ray but I would spend the extra $100 and buy from hlaustin so that I do not have to stand in line for 14 hours. If you can wait, there will be great deals to be had between New Years and the Super Bowl.

I ended up buying the Samsung 52" LN52A850 1080p LCD over the weekend. I bought it online at Amazon for ~$2350.

Some might remember I was debating between the Kuro and Viera plasmas, but I decided against plasmas since I use my television mostly for sports and gaming, which LCD's are better suited to handle.

I know I could've possibly waited until the Holidays to make the purchase, but it was already marked down drastically from MSRP, so how much cheaper was I going to get it for on Amazon?

I was never planning on buying at a bigbox retailer, anyways, so Black Friday wasn't nearly as attractive when accounting for salex tax.

Yes, unless I have been seeing things wrong the plasmas are better with fast motion. I think the issue with sports and gamers is the possibility for image retention/burn-in from the static displays on the games and tickers/score lines during sporting events.

I just ordered a plasma over the weekend. They just look better to my eye than the LCD, especially watching sports. I am starting to worry a little about burn-in, but I have had no issues with my SD CRT except for a little banding at the top and bottom which I assume came from watching letterboxed movies.

My new Panasonic plasma has a "wiper" feature that does away with any IR problem. Have never had any IR on either of my sets though.

Burn-in is no longer a factor with the new plasmas. There's a minuscule chance that you could get image retention but Panasonic has a wipe feature that remedies this.

Congrats on your purchase.
