SAM and DICKER the only members of this team that sing THE EYES???

Not that surprising. They said they wouldn’t and lost a game that they shouldn’t have. They were destroyed knowing that the season is over now. I’d have been in the locker room too. I think the reason Sam stayed was to distract from his horrible play.
Ah, I see you are a fiction writer!
You have created an interesting character here called omniscient one, a foil perhaps for some other trolling purpose.
Maybe create yourself up another character who is a therapist for this one—I think the interplay could be interesting!

(maybe post fiction on Cactus Cafe, though)

Not saying Sam was flawless, but obviously some critics weren't in The Cotton Bowl. "Seven missed throws" versus 20 wrong routes, and 30 times WRs not moving around to get open. The final INT had two WRs within three yards of each other. The WR coach is and has been crap for more than a few years.

However Sam or any other player performed, this is one of the most disheartening photos I've seen bc it means a tradition is lost. The pride is gone from a team standpoint to be a Longhorn and represent a great (not perfect) university. I heard this morning, E. Hogan said UT has lost $25M in donations for the south endzone project due to the Eyes issue.

Herman deflected the question on EOT in game 1, saying, oh I didn't hear it, we were shaking hands with the other team. He won't take a stance for UT.

CDC has to decide - does he want to uphold the tradition of a great university, and keep the big $ and alum on board. OR, does he want to go with the 2020 virtue signaling, progressive theme and watch it crumble. I predict a 5-5 season the way this team is playing. The fire will get hotter for Tom and CDC.

As long as CDC walks around in a burnt orange blazer and tie, all is good. Oh wait, that was a blue blazer in the pic. Hmmm.

I say correct this problem in the year of Covid versus next year. Besides we have already lost any chance at a meaningful post season. I would have each coach place an ultimatum on team and alumni unity for respecting the Eyes of Texas with a clear explanation that nothing in its lyrics are racist and that any points of racism point to some group singing it more than 100 years ago.
Any player still not on board, show them the portal. I can guarantee there are players who would stay. If many leave, it shows you what cohesiveness Herman has. Part ways - there are much better coaches that would love to come in an convince Sam to come back. Additionally, Ewers is from the mold of Sam. I guarantee he is watching and considering other options given how Sam is being treated.

Have you seen that hideous plaid orange sport coat he wears?

I'd sooner see him in a maroon blazer than that damn thing. I once told him if he took it off and laid it on a chair in the club, I'd have a bonfire on San Jacinto before he knew it was gone.

good article placing equal blame on CDC ... which is more than fair.

Orangebloods - The Sunday Pulpit: Chris Del Conte must fix the chaos he created
That article pretends that Hartzell handled this well. I think that is absolutely wrong. Hartzell took 2 weeks to make a decision that should likely have taken months. His immediate pandering to the demands kept this large round brown turd show rolling down the hill. Hartzell is every bit as much to blame as TH and CDC. And Hartzell is the one penned the essay that validated this ********* to begin with.

I am kind of surprised the AAS would waddle into this discussion

"Things have somehow reached a point where Texas coach Tom Herman started his weekly press conference Monday by reading a statement about the school song. It’s a nuclear bomb that nobody at UT can disarm.

“I do want to address something I know that continues to be a point of conversation out there, which is ‘The Eyes of Texas,’” Herman said.

Fan anger about the players’ desire to get rid of the “The Eyes” was already boiling. The pot spilled over Saturday when quarterback Sam Ehlinger was standing front and center, all by himself, with his Horns up after a four-overtime loss to Oklahoma.

The fact that Herman led his press conference with “The Eyes” shows it trumps anything to do with his 2-2, unranked football team. Going forward, Herman will “encourage” players to stay on the field after games but it will not be mandatory....
* * *
The majority of the fan base sees a .500 team robbing the program of its traditions with nothing to show for it.

“Well, I wouldn’t say nothing. I would argue on that,” Herman said. “But other than that, I would say what I said to start the press conference, which is we thank them. We thank them very much for their support, and we understand that at the University of Texas, they’ve got tremendously high expectations....."

We had better not waste another million bucks on another "exhaustive Korn, Ferry search" this time (or any other amount).

Dion,

Please reprimand Joe and prevent the use of Korn Fairy on these boards. Profanity is not preferred, but I'd rather sit through a six hour lecture from our players than have to read those two disgusting words.

The announcers even said when Sam was scrambling for his life that the receivers seemed to be just standing around.

I will never buy the popular false narrative that I am a privileged person because I was born white, or that because someone was not born white, they are severely disadvantaged and discriminated against. There are plenty of blacks in this country, like Herschel Walker and many many others, that would not buy it either.

(Sorry Dion. The assertion had to be contested.)
OK, if that is YOUR opinion, but your insertion that it is a "false narrative" is strictly yours and Herschel Walkers opinion.

The main point was there was a lot of support for Sam's heart and effort in the game, which I agree with. There appeared to be no mention of the same effort by other players like Forster, who also gave max effort (13 tackles) and who took as much punishment, in my opinion, as anyone. You seemed to indicate that you would not acknowledge that fact because of the events of the summer. I still contend that you and I cannot see their issues because of the environment we grew up in. If you do not want to agree, you have to right to that opinion. Studies do not back up your and Walkers opinion however.

Wrote a long response to you 65 then erased and decided to just say I agree others did give it all on Sat. It is universal though that credit and blame always is placed on the qb. Then with him standing alone for the eyes? Well that cemented his impression as a true believer and the others as pretenders. Just the facts my friend.

I would rather recruit 2 or 3* players who love Texas, it's traditions, and will stand up for what Texas represents, than the 4/5* prima donnas that buy into the crap people have fed them. Even when we lost in the past, it still meant something to be here. Sam wanted to be here his entire life. Recruit players who love Texas.

Don't recruit players like Chris Brown, who sat there, flexing after making a tackle when the defense just gave up 15, 20, 25 yards. A dude who had the audacity to call out Charles Omenihu, a guy starting in the NFL, on twitter.

I said it before and will say it again, aggy would never have put up with this.

Nash, I agree with everything you said. I was just trying to say, apparently not very well which is not unusual, that some of the players being trashed on this site were giving every bit as much effort as Sam but did not stay and sing the "The Eyes" which apparently was the reason for the omission. The rebuttal by Dukesteer seemed to be based on anecdotal evidence. He brought up the summer "insurrection", not me. I was responding to that.

There is no one on this site is any prouder of The University than Me. Academic reputarion is the primary reason. athletic excellence is also important and the tradition of winning is more important to me than having a mediocre results but retaining signing "The Eyes" after each contest. That seems to be the choice people are making. If not, than I am wrong and that again is not unusual. You cannot win with a team of 2 and 3 star players, there is ample evidence of that.

Since this thread is located in the "On The Field" forum on this site, who cares about the academic aspect of being a Longhorn? We are talking about athletes who committed to play at Texas and all the accolades and responsibilities that come with it. Part of that is staying on the field during the playing of the school alma mater. What the hell is so hard to understand about that?

Any players not named Sam Ehlinger are not Longhorns, no matter how hard they may have played. And, from what I gather, they got their asses kicked again by OU. I don't care how close the score was. They suck. Playing hard wasn't good enough against a 1-2 OU team with a freshman QB. For chrissakes.

Seems to me that the University/Administration/Coaches/Players have one pivotal question to answer: Is it simpler to replace players OR is it simpler to replace a large portion of the fan base & donors?

The players that were instrumental in the disrespect, destruction of Texas tradition and history and who will not stand as a team to sing 'Eyes' need to have their scholarships revoked but that is likely a legal issue. Many traditions they either have destroyed or are in the process of being destroyed. I still have a hard time believing that some have taken the wrong stance on these issues.

'We Are One'!!!
Rip it off everyone's uniform!!! They do not represent Horn's or Texas and probably not the USA! Give em a choice and maybe they make a better one! Revoke the gift of $$$$$ and move on. Rebuild with coaches and players that want to be Horn's!! Someone has really misguided them and that person needs to be held accountable.
"We are One" needs to be changed to "He is One"
