Sacha Baren Cohen to Star as Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest front men ever. I hope the film does him justice, I'd like to see it.

Even if it's good, I hope it doesn't turn to be another Ray / Walk the Line, just because we already have both of those and they were pretty much the same movie.

well, he is hairy enough.

Just get some dental work done and throw on a cape and it might just work!

My first concert was Thin Lizzy opening for Queen. Saw them with Cheap Trick in Houston too. Always a good show.

I agree that this movie needs to do Freddie justice.

I never saw Queen, but I always liked them.

Except for that ridiculously stupid POS Bohemian Rhapsody.
Stupidest song ever. Even today, I want to shove icepicks in my ears whenever I hear it.

Wow, I'm going to pretend I didn't see that. Not only does the song kick complete ***, but it's use in Wayne's World forever cemented it as a classic.

If you want to talk about rock music that becomes so artsy that it becomes ****, look at the Beatles drug era. Some of it was decent, some of it like Yellow Submarine (the album) was just like ****.

Who would have thought that a Parsi born in Zanzibar by the name of Farrokh Bulsara would turn into such a rock star?

Or that the guitarist for Queen would get a Ph.D. in astrophysics?

Thanks Longhorny630, you summarized much of my feelings towards the Beatles. Not everything they did was good. Much of their acid induced music sucked big time

The only positive thing I can say for Cohen is he managed to pull Isla Fisher. Damn. Otherwise, I find him to be an unfunny douche.

He did? The lucky SOB... Also he is a comedic genius. Not so much for the movie, but his tv shows. The way he could be such a buffon yet still pull the wool over everyone's eyes takes a lot of skill and wit.

Veneration of Freddie Mercury and Queen is one of the roots of our current intellectual stalemate. They wrote some OK songs (the novelty tune BR definitely not among them) but I never understood why folks got so excited about them. I lost all faith in G&R when their Queen fetish was revealed.

there i a live show touring called "its a kind of magic" with a guy who is a dad ringer for freddie and has all hiss moves down..

Saw it in HK - it's like an awesome tribute band

the guy that plays brian may is awesome too

I was at this show in Dallas, 1978:The Link

Great, great show. Took the girl who later left me backstage at a Styx concert to go back to the hotel with Tommy Shaw. But that's another story entirely.
