Saw this article from USA today posted on the Boneyard, she mentions Texas and why she eliminated us. If you don't want to read it, this is what she says...
“My relationship with the coaches at Texas weren’t at the level they should have been,” said Ionescu, who is averaging 26.5 points this season. “And I don’t think the relationship would’ve been built up by the time I needed to decide. I don’t think they would’ve been the best option for me.”

Ionescu said she left a voicemail for the Texas coaches in the fall, alerting them of her decision. She said she never heard back. College coaches are not allowed to talk about unsigned recruits.

“They are probably a bit upset, but they have a very good recruiting class coming in, and I don’t think they are too bothered,” she said.

If what she says is true the coaching staff should have called her back just to wish her well on her decision and move on.

totally agree. Can't burn any bridges because you never know when they will lead a player to your program.

Definitely seems odd that a recruit takes an official visit to a school when they don't believe the relationship with the coaches is at the level they think it needs to be. But, as long as both parties agree to conduct the visit, then I guess it's worth the time for everyone.

Her heart is at CAL and her brother is at Oregon, and it's been pretty clear for a while she was going to one of those two schools. I do agree things can change, and it might have been a nice thing for us to call her back, but as others have said you don't leave that kind of info on a voicemail. This wasn't early in the process, and we weren't one of a long list of preliminary choices. We had been one of her finalists for while, she had taken an official visit, and she should have delivered the news directly. Just leave a message for someone to call you back. But she's young and we could (should?) have reached out anyway. Who knows how it really went down. One thing I do know is I LOVE our 2016 class, and three of the best players in the country are going to be Horns this fall!

Not too bothered by this. I don't respond to voicemail's quite often. I always feel like if its important enough, they'll reach me.

Hang up and call again later? I don't see the issue with a v/m.
To each their own. Voicemail could have simply indicated that she would like a return phone call to discuss things. I find her method equivalent to breaking up with someone via email or text.

She should have spoken to one of the coaches in person given that we were among her finalists. If you don't reach someone leave a msg asking them to return your call. And, yes, we could have called back anyway. But in the end it sounds like things worked out for the best, and that she's a better fit for another program.

We've heard one side of the story.
That's all anyone really ever hears; recruit can make public comments about coaches, but coaches aren't allowed to discuss (with the media) unsigned recruits.

Honestly, we don't know for sure what the voicemail said. Did she actually state in her voicemail that she didn't feel as strong a relationship with Texas' coaches as other programs.? If so, she surely should not have expected a return call. #awkward. If she didn't tell them that, but is now telling the media that, then it's like airing a one-sided secret to the public.

If she didn't give a reason, that's her choice. I do recall some recruiting service tweeted out that she had eliminated Texas from consideration. For all we know, that was tweeted before our coaches even had the chance to call her back.
