The Horns are playing real well now, and are headed to the regionals after nicely dispatching a very good 30-1 team in the second round tonight.
Everyone’s playing well now. The O is awesome as usual and everyone’s involved. Kisner is awesome as usual with Kiley holding down the back row beside her, and the serve-pass game is looking good too.
Ashley’s stoked and managed to hit .429 in both the first and second round; statistically improbable but aesthetically delightful. My favorite play tonight: when she snapped an overpass straight down. I think it hit the two foot line.
Juliann is hitting well. Tonight she hit a couple balls tonight very, very, very hard. Ya shoulda seen it.
Jenn Doris has gone nuts: she hit over five hundred last night and tonight was 8 of 9 for dang near .800. The one shot she missed? She was doing that soft shot to the 4-spot, Destinee style. It went just out. Would have been so incredibly cool if it had gone it. In any case, you can just see the confidence in her face, it’s neat to see her play so well.
Destinee continues to play like a future Olympian. My favorite play of hers was when Wichita’s setter tried a tip and – uh-oh! – Destinee was there. She also had a number of those plays where really the best word I can think of is “unstoppable.” Just flat-out unstoppable.
Kiley did great, and had one of those extra-special digs, and a few plays later almost had another one, a one-armed straight-out beach-style fist dig that Lauren went flying for. She’s gonna need some ice on that hip I think, but still, how cool when our six-five girls fly around on D that way.
So overall, things are looking good heading into the regionals.
Our arch-nemesis from last year, USC, bowed out early this year. That part of the bracket is probably headed to a Hawaii-Stanford match-up, which should be interesting.
Nebraska is on the other side and will likely get Washington. Kudo’s to the Huskers for selling out again tonight; our own attendance could have been better.
The big news in our part of the bracket is that Iowa State went into Minnesota and took out the #6 Gophers. Go Big XII! They get Oregon next.
Next up for us is UCLA. More on that later!'
P.S. Celebrity sightings: RuthAnn Feist. Jody Conradt too!
