SA restaraunts?

I know this is around Austin, but since we don't have around San Antonio I figured this is the closest spot for this.

I have a buddy that is moving from Long Island to do research in San Antonio for a semester. Being an Austinite, I have eaten at restaraunts in SA with friends, but don't remember what the good ones were. Can anyone give me some recommendations for Mexican and BBQ in San Antonio?

Mexican -
Torres Taco Haven on South Presa. My favorite place, I always try to stop by when I'm in town. Don't let the name fool you, they have a lot more than tacos.

Piedras Negras de Noche on South Laredo. Very good, this was the first place I ate after I was out of the State for 6 months (The only reason I didn't eat at Torres was because they weren't open for dinner at the time).

Rosarios on South Alamo. Good, but kind of trendy. It gets really loud and busy at night.

El Jarro de Arturo on San Pedro. My dad's been eating here since the 70s, and he keeps going back for a reason.

Mi Tierra off of Dolorosa. This is kind of a more touristy place, but the bakery is really good and the food, especially late at night/early in the morning is good. It can get really busy, though, and parking is a pain.

La Fogata on Vance Jackson. Kind of overpriced, and probably overrated, but it is another one of those San Antonio traditions. It used to be really good, but they got a new owner about 10-12 years ago, and now I think it's just alright. But I know a lot of people who still swear by it.

Finally, Las Palapas. They are all over town, you'll see the big yellow signs. Geat for good, cheap breakfast tacos.

And tell him not to be afraid to try all the little taquerias he'll find. They are usually outstanding.

As Far as barbecue, tell him to come up to Austin and then go out to Lockhart. Having grown up around San Antonio, there's nothing that will really knock your socks off, IMO.
