S-Video Help

I want to try and connect my pc to the TV (to watch movies).

So, i hook up the s video from my pc to the s video switch thing (which allows u to plug 4 devices in and choose by button which one to enable).

but, my computer isnt recognizing the TV at all. i only see one display (which is my monitor) and no TV.
i'm guesing this is because i'm connecting it to the switch instead of going directly to the tv (tv doesnt have s-video in :/).

any ideas?

Why would you do that? assuming you have a sweet rig, you can watch a movie deinterlaced with your monitor, 480p sweetness.

If you have a HDTV, then using S- video is a crime.

As far as I can tell from your info, you are trying to run S-video into a TV that has none. I don't think that can be done. You have to run the similar cables from the computer to the splitter and then to the TV. The splitter won't take an S-video signal and make it a non-S-Video signal. As far as I know it is just not possible.

I remember changing mine to do it this way a few weeks ago, I think. I might miss something so wiggle around in this area and see if you can find if I missed something. Try this:

right click desktop
choose display properties
choose the "settings" tab
click the mx440 128mb tab
there should be a "folder" that pulls out on the left hand side of the properties window,
look for a small green rectangle and arrow in it if it doesn't pull out automatically
there should be a setting in there to allow you to change the output

Well, I'm not too familiar with the nVidia cards, having been partial to the Radeon line the past couple of years.

Your posts on other threads indicate you know what you are doing as much as anyone else, so I don't know what else to offer other than you may want to try nVidia's drivers rather than Chaintech's. Looking through this guide indicates that there are numerous settings regarding the TV-out feature, but as I have not personally messed with these, I don't have any words of wisdom.

I personally do not think that the switch is the problem, as your other devices work just fine. Of course, that's just a hunch. You may want to try connecting the PC to one of the ports that you know works, and make sure that you have that port selected when you attempt to set the active display on your PC.

Without a second TV that has an s-video connector, or a second computer that has the same, it is difficult to narrow the possibilities.

i am using nvidia drivers (not chaintech).

i've forced it to think tht there is a tv present (by clicking "my connected tv doesnt appear on this list").

still, i am not getting output to the tv.

I have that same Terk switch. You can't do what you are trying to do. That switch will only output the same format that is coming in. I imagine you have the S-video coming out of your computer, going into the switch, then you have RCA connections going out to the TV. That switch will not upconvert or downconvert signals.
