Ruth Chris Steakhouse

This post was on the back page? For shame.

Ruth's Chris f'ing rules

In Austin, it is as good a choice as any, except I would probably give the nod to Fleming's. In any city with several good independents(dallas, houston, chicago, etc.), it would be similar to going to the Macaroni Grill for great italian..

Speaking of Fleming's . . . my wife & I went there with both sets of parents the other night. Holy smokes, that's good food. I had a ribeye that was far and away the best steak I've ever had.

gf worked at ruth's chris during college so we went from time to time and i loved it. then i broadened my horizens and tried a few others around town and its really 3rd or 4th on my list as far as austin steak goes. we went a few weeks ago and the steak wasn't as great as i remember.

try going to Texadelphia now. I used to eat there once at least twice a week and thought it was the greatest food on the planet. Had one recently and realized that my horizons were much more narrow a long time ago.

was never big on the cheesesteak, but they make a mean mushroom burger at texadelphia. but, yeah i get what you mean. at the time ruth's was the best steak i'd ever had. since then i'd put trulucks, austin land and even sullivans ahead of it.

At a steakhouse I always order a fillet and compared to similar places Ruth Chris is not that great. In fact I don't plan on ever going there again.
Unless the scenario is "Hey, Hookem2102 wanna go to Ruth Chris...my treat?" Then I would go.

Fwiw: The shoestring potato/fries are great though.

I had a $100 gift card and ended up spending $50 out of pocket ($150 total for 2) at RC. I thought the steaks were OK, nothing to write home about. The best part of the meal was the dessert which was a creme brulee. I will probably be hanged for this but I think Outback has better filet than RC. I ate at Fleming's some years ago and I remember if being better than RCs - but again not overly impressive for what you're paying.

My favorite steak restaurant at the moment in Austin is...shudder...Houston's. I think the Hawaiian Ribeye as well as the Filet Mignon are good choices for steak there. It's a little sad that there are not that many home-grown steakhouses in Austin (or are there? Educate me). I have heard some good things about Austin Land and Cattle.

All of this being said, part of my problem with eating steak out, is that I love making steak at home on a charcoal grill and it's hard for any of these places to match a Choice or Prime Ribeye cooked to perfection at home, by me.

ausitn land gets my nod for austin steak house. the shiner bock mushrooms are the best. theyve got a good caesar salad to go with it.

I live down the street from Houstons. Great babt back ribs and prime rib. The ribeye is damn good too.
