Rutgers' offensive mindset after they got the lead did them in once again. They worked the shotclock down until they were forced to take bad shot after bad shot. Why would you stop putting offensive pressure on the other team and attacking the rim the way they had been?
I love Vivian Stringer but like others, she pulls the reins in on the offensive end and it bites her team in the butt. They could have won this game easily. They had UConn on the ropes and let them get away.
I agree. This loss was a direct result of a poor coaching decision. Rutgers had UCONN rattled and Stringer pulled them back and they lost their aggressiveness, and as a result, the game. Offense is so often about getting into a flow and Stringer interrupted the flow.
OK, I thought I was the only baffled at why she called them off in the 2nd half. What was she thinking? They shoulda coulda won this game hands down. I'm not a coach so are there any coaches out there that could shed some light on this issue. And another thing that I can't figure out is yes they are a defensive team but these girls can shoot lights out and drive to the hole. So why not use your great defense and your great offense and have a great team? These would wear teams down.
