I like the proposed four 10 minute quarters vs the current two 20 minute halves.
Not as sure about the foul shots though, really the resetting of fouls ever quarter to zero. Needing to get to five fouls per quarter to reach before getting to the bonus seems like a lot of fouls. That’s 16 fouls per game without a penalty vs the current 12 (six per half). I realize that the elimination of the one and one had something to do with the number arrived at. Still, that’s an extra two fouls a half without a FT. Why not start shooting FTs on the fourth foul? They want to speed up the game, not sure this rule would do that.
I am missing the math on the media timeouts. Proposed: One per quarter plus one at the end of the first and third periods. That is six by my math. Currently, there are four in the game at designed times. So, how does that translate to two fewer stoppages in play under the new proposed rules? Color me confused. At best, I would think that is a wash.
Some of the proposed rules simply bring the game level with how it is being played in High School, WNBA and in world competition. Not a bad direction to move towards.
