Rule changes implemented

This change will help us in particular because of KA's style. But look for teams like Uconn And UK to force about 30+ To's a game as they are among the best ive seen with the backcourt press.

30 second shot clock for the women versus 35 for the men. But this was before the change to the 10 second rule. No mention of a change in the shot clock. Guess it will stay at 30 seconds this season.

Guess there's no room for improvement for frosh. And that "slowish sophomore" may surprise you. She did have the best Assist to Turnover ratio on the team (other than Ashley who will also be in the mix to run the point).

The team will be better after a year in the system and no longer having to think about what they are supposed to do.

Bab beat me to it. As someone who saw all but 4 of our games last year, I can tell you that a majority of our turnovers were from trying to play too fast. We never IMO struggled to get the ball down court, it was always the half court set that gave us the most problems. And now that we have Krystle, I think pg will be the least of our worries this year. My concern comes mostly from the 3 spot. Who will play there consistently while not hurting us on offense or defense. This years team has a lot of pieces, that if put together properly can win some games. While expectations outside the program are low, coach KA really thinks this group could surprise a lot of people.

my guess, if the season were to start today, is that our starting backcourt would be the same as the one that ended the season: Chassidy and Empress on the wings and Celina at the point. Brady, Ashley, Gigi, Nekia, Brianna, and Krystle will come off the bench. Both Gigi and Nekia, especially Gigi, are likely to spend time in the post. Brianna is the one that I want to see on the court. Like when Chassidy came in, she may end up being the jewel in this class although not as heralded as her classmates.

Back to TOs, most were committed trying to force the ball inside. That should go down simply through experience gained by both the guards and the posts.

just an additional fact for thought: Celina was ninth in the conference in assist to turnover ratio for the season. She was the top freshman in the league in that category.

Dream on. TX has the worst coach in the Big 12, until Whitaker at Tech proves me wrong. To go 12-19 with the talent on the floor last year speaks volumes. UCLA exposed the vulnerability against the zone early on. Zero adjustments were made for the rest of the season. The team had 19 turnovers in the first game of the season. They averaged over 20 for the season. Individual players improved, but in spite of rather than because of coaching. Aston coaches offense as if she were Jody Conradt in the late 1980s with a huge talent differential in her favor and no other team investing at all in WCBB.

Some of the comments above strike me as correct in terms of details. Many turnovers occurred in the half court offense because the sets were so predictable. Why turnover TX in the backcourt when it would be so easy to turn them over once they crossed half court? With the new ten second rule, opponents might very well decide to turnover the inexperienced and/or slow TX guards earlier. Sure Rodriguez had the best assist to turnover ratio on the team. But the team had the worst assist to turnover ratio in the conference.

I agree TX will be better next year. 2 perhaps 3 (if lucky) games better. So 14-17 would be my prediction. I don't think Aston will break the records she set last year - longest losing streak in program history, longest Conference losing streak in program history, but, I fear I could be wrong. The delusion that the new rule will benefit Aston's style of coaching is what I find laughable. It is already very easy for opponents to turn Aston's team over. A rule that makes turnovers even easier can hardly benefit a coach who coaches a style of basketball that has shown itself to be distinctly prone to turnovers.

Plonsky has now made two bad hires in a row. GG was understandable; KA less so. If we could put GG and KA together in one person, TX would have a very good coach. KA has the intensity and commitment that GG lacked. Unfortunately Aston has shown herself to have a woefully low basketball IQ. The days when the recruitment of talent could overcome poor to nonexistent coaching are long past. How do you lose twice to a KSU team, a team decimated by injuries without a single player over 6 foot, after you find a successful strategy to beat them at home is beyond me. Aston is proving herself a reasonable recruiter of top in state talent, but has yet to sniff on a national recruit outside the state of TX. With excellent coaching, there is enough talent in the state of TX for a TX team to be nationally relevant, but the Longhorns don't have the coaching. It breaks my heart that a player of Imani McGee Stafford's talent might never play in an NCAA tournament game, but that is entirely possible.

TX players and fans are in for a world of hurt. Last year TX could have hired Jeff Walz, the only coach I have ever seen who made Kim Mulkey look lost, or even Kim Barnes Arico. Instead Plonsky did not even look at them and hired, in the worst sentimental, crony fashion an incompetent, but familiar good ole gal, who was exposed in the last season as being not up for the job. Aston might improve as a coach in the big leagues, but there was no evidence of that last year, and to think that a ten second rule helps her style of coaching is risibly aggie. Aston's style of coaching relies on a talent differential that TX will never have until it recruits the very best players in the country and with a 12-19 record in her first season, Aston has an uphill battle.

I predict 4 to 5 more years of disappointment. Hopefully 3 successive losing seasons will be enough to get Aston fired and a real coach can be found.

You are simply crazy if you think this new rule will help a coach whose team averaged 20 plus turnovers a game. Pass the koolaid. I need some.

We are a long way away from calling KA the worst coach in the B12. Her recruiting alone has put her in the top 1/2. One year doesnt exemplify a body of work. She has improved every program she has ever coached and I havent seen anything long term that says different here at Texas. We were better in other areas than we the year prior. These are hopefully what will be called growing pains.
