Rudy's BBQ

It's a San Antonio-based chain. Two things that generally would not bode well for a bbq joint. But I sincerely enjoy Rudy's. The sauce is arguably the tastiest in town. And the brisket is extremely lean every time I visit. I've yet to be disappointed yet.

I was very disappointed with Rudy's. I think you either like it or you don't. The service is great, the food is hot and fresh and plentiful. If you're not overly familiar with TX BBQ you may like it. However, where they COMPETELY miss the boat, IMO, is flavor. From the brisket to the sauce to the beans, it doesn't taste right. It's like the meat was cooked in an oven without any wood smoke. The sauce was too ketchupy. The beans lacked a bite. I'd be interested to hear others' comments on this place.

Dude, the sauce is outstanding! It is not your typical Austin sauce, but it has a zesty flavor with a little kick. And their brisket meat is as flavorful as any "chain" in the Austin area. You must have hit them on a bad day to have such a horrible experience. I've been going there regularly for years (as a change of pace from the others here in town) and enjoy it every time.

That stuff that Rudy's serves should not be called BBQ. Maybe I'm just spoiled growing up in the country where people really know how to make BBQ. I thought the brisket was almost flavorless, like it had been boiled before getting thrown on the pit.

Change that d to a b and you've got yourself a pretty cool joint.

Barbecue needs to come from a shack, preferably in a seedy part of town

I like rudy's, their meat actually has meat in it, not just fat... Nothing beats Sam's BBQ though in good old east austin!

Brisket that requires sauce is not good brisket

The best Rudy's is at the original Rudys in San Antonio. The best meat is the smoked Turkey.
