What a charmer.

Mr. Giuliani was a pugilist in a city of political brawlers. But far more than his predecessors, historians and politicians say, his toughness edged toward ruthlessnessand became a defining aspect of his mayoralty. One result: New York City spent at least $7 million in settling civil rights lawsuits and paying retaliatory damages during the Giuliani years.

He has to run for President in order to be judged on his worthiness to be President.

- If crime rates were a pressing issue, Giuliani has a leg up. They aren't, so he doesn't.

- It has been a bad year for al Qaeda, so his "9/11" issue has no traction.

- His personal life is a mess, so no "moral" issue.

- Is he a good administrator? Keruck kills him on that issue.

I think Giuliani is on the outside looking in, and unless McCain, Romney and to a lesser extent, Huckabee all screw the pooch, I don't see him gaining ground.

McCain is the "leader"; Romney the "CEO"; and Huckabee the "Saver of Souls." Giuliani? A destiny candidate who acts as though it will be handed to him. That doesn't play well in the current environment.

It was a mistake for him to sit out the early races; people have forgotten about him.

did he ever poll well there? I know he was polling very well in SC in the Fall.

If he finds a way to pull this off, he will have rewritten the book. Strategically and mathematically, their plan made sense. From a public perception standpoint (continually, not only losing, but finishing last), it may have been a disaster. We'll see what FL and Feb 5th have to say about it.

There may be many reasons RG is a scumbag and perhaps even unfit to be President, but with an economy the size of NYC's, "costing" them $7 mil in legal bills is hardly a reason that he is unfit. That just tells me he was getting **** done. Often you piss folks off when you're challenging the status quo. Good for him.

8 years in office, over 8 million residents... $7M isn't squat regardless of whether he was purposely shitting on people or not.

To further ATX's point, the NYC metro area is nearly a $1 TRILLION per year economy, and the author of this article is using less than $1 million per year in lawsuit settlements as proof that RG is a "pugilist?"

I don't like RG, but sheesh, that's ridiculous.

You guys need to stop getting caught up in the money. The part that is troubling is using the power of the government to come down on people. I do not want a president using the power of the federal government to get even with his enemies. We don’t need another Richard Nixon. I inartfully made my point earlier.
