RS-J w/ his Dad & AAU coach met the entire Texas basketball staff and football staffs today. Word is the visit went well, and one source said that the feeling is that Texas leads at this time. Playing Hoops & WR was a key part of the discussion today. Decision for a commit is expected by the end of the summer.

Mack, Wyatt and Giles were the football coaches...

RSJ will be busy the next few weeks going to Rivals 5 star challenge, going to Nike in Oregon and has a BB tournament in Las Vegas... A visit to LSU has not been set-up as of yet, but it appears one is in the making.

Seals-Jones takes surprise visit to Texas

Ricky Seals-Jones, the nation’s top wide receiver, wants to look into the possibility of playing both football and basketball in college. It was one of the main reasons he chose to decommit from Texas on June 5.

He was able to explore the possibility of doing that as a Longhorn during an unofficial visit on Thursday and said everything went well.

"Good day at Texas. I just talked to the coaches and took a tour of the basketball campus," he said. "It felt good to be there again. Texas is still No. 1 in my heart."

Update - 2:30pm 6/21 - latest on RS-J from 247Sports/Hookem.com!

News filtering out of Sealy on Seal-Jones is sources close to the 6-foot-5, 225-pound dual-sport athlete continue to mention Texas as the leader at the present time. This coming on the heels of Seals-Jones' unofficial visit to Texas last Thursday where he met with head football coach Mack Brown and head basketball coach Rick Barnes. While the vibes after the visit were all positive for the Longhorns, sources said that behind the scenes it appears that the Texas visit had a bigger impact on Seals-Jones than his trip the previous day to Texas A&M.

“He just had a different vibe at Texas,” the source said. “It felt more like home.” Brown & the other Texas coaches who were on campus got a lot of things straightened out with the former Longhorn commit, the coach who made the biggest impact on the visit was Barnes, who indeed let Seals-Jones know without question that he'll be able to play basketball at Texas if he gets back in the fold with the Longhorns. It also proved to be a great bonding experience between Seals-Jones and Barnes. “Coach Barnes challenged him to a game of H-O-R-S-E,” the source said. “That was a great idea and really seemed to break the ice between the two.”

Who won the game of horse? 'We're told that Barnes won..."
Barnes rarely loses in horse. He beats young guys with all the "old school" glass angles. (Howe & Hamilton)

Due to a busy June/July busy schedule over the next month.... the %'s of RSJ making that LSU visit is at about 70% chance at this time.

Jesus is saying that LSU was slipping a bit with RS-J... which coincides with IT is saying that Ricky Seals-Jones has no plans to visit LSU. Apparently, Swoopes has gotten in his ear big time in addition to Barnes and Mack.

Another nugget from 247Sports...
"Don't forget that this is Rival's weekend in Atlanta, and Swoopes is rooming with RSJ all weekend."

Call me optimistic but I think Swoopes does some magic!

The 1st Wednesday in February can't get here soon enough!

Per OB...

RSJ has arrived on campus and Mack changed his entire schedule to be there.

Great move by Mack (if OB report is accurate)... If Mack doesn't close this deal (for a second time with RSJ), then color me skeptical as to what may be really going on behind the scenes with this youngster!

I read elsewhere that he is accompanied by his AAU coach (basketball) which is interesting considering Rick Barnes hasn't engaged in the "hire the AAU coach to gain a commitment" routine as yet. Perhaps the basketball coach is along to listen to Barnes' evaluation of RSJ's prospects for college ball. The only two sport player I recall Barnes having on the roster was Ivan Wagner, NCAA high jump champion for Texas.

I would like it if he could be to Texas what Tony Gonzales was to Cal. IIRC, Gonzales played both sports there.

These outside influences are a cancer on sports. Look no further than what is happening
with Vince and Major Adams. And harken back to Ricky and his rap rep. These kids need
some guidance from their parents (when they exist), or they get off-track in a hurry.

thx for the posts & updates, HD.
Also heard Ketch and Chad on 104.9 talking about it.

they kept emphasizing how Mack changed his schedule, which was to be at a major sports meeting (can't remember the details).

RSJ ..... holla!!

If his "heart" is at the 40 Acres, suggesting he's bouncing around on non-emotional issues, e.g., basketball, academics, opportunity (TV time with bowl games, TX/OU game, recent national title, etc., recent number of lettermen in the NFL from program, etc.), then this should be a done deal.

This versus eAtMe in the SEC as a lower-tier program (anyone thing aggy competes seriously with Bama, Florida, LSU, Auburn who have won recent national titles, add piggy, USC which are now legitimate top-10 programs).

Yeah, let him go already. Stop the pandering if he's not serious. It shouldn't be that hard of a decision. IMHO.

What happens if he signs with Texas? Do Barnes and Brown have to pretty much name him a starter for basketball and football? Sounds like that's his expectation. And if one or neither happens?

He's visiting schools to make sure he's making the best decision for himself and has been honest with our coaches. He sees to have his head on more straight than some of the immature posts on this thread. We need him on the 40 Acres for sure, unless everyone is satisfied being the bottom tier of the big 12 in football like the last 2 years.

Actually, he had already evaluated schools some time ago and gave his word that his choice was Texas. Of course, until he signs he can change his mind. But this is getting to be a bit much.

More times than not in recent history, those prospects who commit, decommit, bounce around from school to school wind up being busts regardless of their awesome physical talents.

RSJ, as a wide receiver/athlete won't make or break an otherwise stellar recruiting class, nor control whether the Horns are a bottom tier Big 12 team.

Uh, we just finished a couple of down years with the top-recruited QB in the country who didn't pan out. Nothing against GG, but we were told he was all everything and he was touching the ball on every offensive snap when in the game.

There are no sure things w/r/t high school recruits. And neither is this so much dissing on RSJ; just let him go if he's lost his committment to UT. Put the effort towards getting other good prospects that really want to be in Austin.

The kid is talented enough top merit the "showing of love" he received. At least in football cleats. And Barnes talking to him was a great gesture on on the part of the BB program. If the A Dept. hadn't put forth that kind of effort and the kid went elsewhere, the "what if" would hang i n the air forever. At least now, if he goes somewhere else, it will not be because of complacent recruiting or lazy coaches. That's really all we can ask the coaches to do. The rest is all up to the recruit.

I don't have an issue with him exploring options, but the part about bringing AAU coach with him makes my skin crawl. I'm sure it's an unfair generalization, but what a bunch of leeches. This is especially troubling given that it's not like he's a top hoops prospect - but in AAU, EVERYONE's the next Michael Jordan...

Ok, I take that back. It wasn't the coaches per se, it was AAU in general that is the worst thing to happen to college basketball. But the coaches are guilty by association nonetheless. His reason is that players do not improve or develop their game because AAU is all about one upmanship and getting "the next great player" to play for them.

^^^In this day & time, everyone has an AAU coach so you just... have... to... learn... to deal with them! Good or bad...

I get the feeling that RSJ loves texas but the lust is gone were and he feels special and excitment from the other schools like he did from texas in the begining.... kind of like a gfriend after 6 months and every other girl looks better

The word on the street is he's 75% in favor of Texas. That's good but I'd rather he wait till he's 100% sure. Let's not forget, he's a 17 year old HS student and he should look around. If he were to sign with us and then regret not seeing what others had to offer, it would show in his play and wouldn't do him or the team good no matter how unbelievably talented he is.

See Darius White.

^^^
Exactly! You're $$$ with your thoughts... I've never really understood how Jesus could put a % on where a kid was with a commitment. You're either not all in, leaning... or all in. Just find it interesting... Nonetheless, 75% 'leaning' is better than not in at all!

It might be higher... he gave an interview with Perroni and maybe he didn't want to say the ATM was out of it.

This shows the good relationship between Barnes and
Brown.
I guess RSJ would be a walk-on for Barnes, so he should like to have the extra body on the team.
There is no way for Barnes to scout all the 2A basketball players that score big time points, so he may even get a good player out of this.
