router installation issues

my old wireless g router crapped out. got a new N router/gig/blah blah.

for some reason, i can not run the installation cd, since you have to have a wired connection to run it. i have one, and ran the cable right from the pc to the modem, but it keeps saying it can not run the wizard. jsut to be dumb, i went against the warnings (MUST INSTALL CD BEFORE CONNECTING!).

I jsut plugged the new one in. now, the connection is a little sketchy. when I open the desktop network connections thing, it shows TWO open connections. one is the PCI Network/wireless g "thing" and the other is captioned "internet gateway".

My guess is that this has to do with this router not actually being installed on the machine.

whatever. the lynksys site does not have anything helpful, jsut a download of the cd i already have.

help.

Just a thought, as a prelim. step;

Got to your network connections thing and remove/delete (in a hurry, so my windows verbage may be inaccurate) and get rid of the old 'wireless G' - based connection - thats the one that crapped out, right?
Then remove any utlility that might be associated with the same crapped-out wireless G. (that would be if you installed some disc-based S'ware associated with the old router).

** (edit) Oh, then, use this link and stop the 'wireless zero configuration service **

After that, then procede with the disk that came for the new 'N' - based router.... an alternative would be to try Windows "make new connection" wizard thingy, and see if Windows can configure it for you...

Caveat- the "make new connection" wizard thingy for the new router may not work - I'm not up to speed on this relatively new N series of w'less stuff.... basically I'm shotgunning.

Just call the linksys help line. I ran into a big problem when I installed the wireless N. They helped me set up my own private network and everything...I call them with any problems.
