I really really liked Ron Stone. And he really seemed to like Texas. I remember him signing a book he wrote about the "Texas City Disaster," for my parents....

Grew up with him - always seemed to be on in the background. I haven't lived in Houston for 16 years, and have lived in Dallas, Austin and San Antonio since - I can genuinely say that Houston, and especially Ron Stone, delivered the news better than anyone. I feel like a part of my childhood just died. I am sad.

did he used to work with Ron Franklin on the Oilers radio broadcast? I seem to remember him doing TV games during the pre-season

Wow, he went on the air about the same time my family moved to Houston. I didn't realize he hadn't been the lead anchor for 16 years. RIP.

wow, I remember him from the 80s when he was the anchor at KPRC and Ron Franklin was the sports lead. Ron Stone went to the same high school as Peter Gardere.

I wish I could get all those old Eyes of Texas episodes on DVD. Does anyone know who sang the intro song to that show? My favorite news anchor of all time.

I watched the tribute to him last night on 2 and I'll probably watch the hour special Saturday night. He was part of my childhood.

Not only was Ron Stone the face of Houston news, you could just tell that he was a genuinely nice guy. Houston lost a true treasure.

I live just down the street from his family and I would see him out all the time walking the neighborhood. He would always have a big hello for you like you were his best friend. He was so proud of his grandchildren, and I know they will miss him most of all.

I moved to Houston in 82 and remember always trying to turn on the news at 5:00 p.m. just to see what he and Doug Johnson would get into. When Ron delivered the news, you felt like it was from a guy you could trust, not some over the top pretty boy trying to sell you the days blood and guts features. I'm sure gonna miss him.

More than anyone else I can think of, Ron Stone is the face, and voice, of Houston. By acclamation, he was a superb newscaster, and by all accounts I've heard, he was a fine man too.

Goodbye neighbor and rest in peace.
