anyone remember this story from the Mackovik days? There were a lot of interesting stories that came about while i was attending school, but this one sticks out in my mind every once in a while. If I could've pulled off the same stunt in order to play on our field, you bet your last dollar I would. Of course, I'm 5'10", not known for my vertical leap and break easily.

was that the guy who played college ball somewhere in california and made up a fake name to walk on at texas? defensive back

I remember being pissed about this as a 10 year old kid because my dad had this old Texas shirt with #24 on it that I always wore when watching a game, and McKelvey/Weaver was #24.

I can somewhat remember being hammered in New Orleans, drinking hand gernades and hurricanes before the Sugar Bowl vs. V.Tech when that story broke, i figured, it would be a distraction and Texas would be in trouble...we were.

that was such a weird story. Whatever happened to Bonita Money? Wasn't that the name his sister used or something?

EDIT- wow, Bonita has problemsThe Link

also got into a fight with Shannon Doherty once.

The ******** pass interference call that essentially gave VT a touchdown was more a problem. Seriously, one guy who wasn't that big a deal put the whole program in a funk? C'mon.

I remember a story (might have been Statesman) where they looked for former player reactions to the McKelvey/Weaver situation and Blake Brockermeyer said "who?" in his comment.

Ron wasn't a distraction. Mackovic was the distraction.

I remember that.... it sucked.

If I recall correctly, this bowl game was going to be our breakout game into national prominence. Like the '91Cotton Bowl, it didn't work out too well.

When the story broke, didn't the guy just disappear for a few days?

Or the 12 Coronas I drank, which caused me to piss on the exterior of the Superdome after the game. Oh wait, that was just my problem.

I remember when Weaver cost our defense the shutout by getting burned for a touchdown late in the game against Texas Tech.
