Romney's Claim that Hillary/Obama Votes=Terrorism

I wanted to get people's opinions on Mitt's exit speech yesterday wherein he basically stated that a vote for Hillary or Obama is a vote for Terrorism.

How does that sit with you?
The Link

"I simply cannot let my campaign be part of aiding a surrender to terror."

I understand he had to use the red meat for the crowd he was speaking to, but thank god he is out of the race.

I do not think the campaign tactic of fear is going to work this time around.

What if people on this board said the same thing about Obama that he can go **** himself? How would that sit with you?

Brisket
you said, "I am a tenatitve Obama supporter, and if he engaged in such logically fallacious demagoguery"
So What exactly do you call this? said in Iowa
"CLINTON, Iowa – Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama this afternoon called for an immediate start to the withdrawal of all U.S. combat forces from Iraq -- with a goal of full removal by the end of 2008 -- as he suggested the nation has lost its way because of the war.
"'The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq's leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops. Not in six months or one year – now."
did you burn a scathing email to obama for such fallacious demogogery?
Was obama lying? does he really not propose to do this?
OR are YOU saying Mitt should have known obama didn't really mean it and there fore should not have said obama said he wanted the USA to retreat?

I am amazed at the anger directed toward Mitt who was only repeating what Hillary nand obama have said numerous times they would do
Who is being fallacious here?

The basic tenor of the speech being that HRC or Obama has to have the backing of the fringe anti-war base to be nominated. As many have speculated for a while, the winner will then return toward the middle, realizing that the rest of America won't stand for abandoning the struggle in Iraq.

I think it is best to talk about specifics at this point: What are Obama's and Hillary's positions on the war in Iraq? What would be their next steps based on what they have stated, not based on conjecture.

uninformed -

It doesn't matter in Obama's case because he makes us feel good about ourselves....sort of like when everybody wins at YMCA soccer.

We have already "begun" to remove troops from Iraq.

The issue a year ago was whether the removal would be on an arbitrary time line or tied to conditions on the ground. The arbitrary time line argument failed.

Removing the troops based on conditions on the ground is now U.S. policy that Clinton, Obama and McCain all support.

Obama and Clinton use rhetoric to assuage their anti-war supporters, but notice the argument has returned to whether the war should have started in the first place, not whether we should surrender.

All three of the candidates will put pressure on the Iraqi government to improve conditions, but withdrawal regardless of conditions on the ground is not a realistic option any of them entertain.

I think their true indignation is because they agree with Obama on Iraq and disagree with Romney. If demagogery were the issue they would tell Obama to go **** himself for his demogogery of the rich.

Washpark dealt with the challenge well, above.

Indeed, Obama said to BEGIN the drawdown, which is both already being done, and should continue. I tend to agree with Obama, Clinton, and McCain on this one -- in the near term, we should draw down our presence as much as possible while working to improve and maintain stability. There may well be differences as to the LONG TERM strategy, but it seems that they all are wisely reserving judgment on that until they have access to the true inside scoop.

None of the mainstream candidates have taken a position that we should bring them all home right now, that I am aware of. Sure, some of the hardcore antiwar folks do so -- and they are idiots. I'll call THEM out -- but until Obama and/or Hillary say that they have that position, I won't call them out. And remember -- I HATE Hillary -- I'd call her out right away if given even the slightest opportunity.

I respect that you disagree with his plans.

There are a dozen different plans for the future of Iraq and all of them are loaded with negatives. If we pull out too quickly the government could collapse. If we don't pull out quick enough we'll lose more American lives. How many American lives is acceptable to bring stability? And how stable is stable enough to justify leaving, since there will probably never be true long-lasting peace in that region in our lifetime.

My opinion is that the first 4000 American lives lost in Iraq have not been worth it, and neither will the next 4000.

I respect your disagreements. Obama's plan is not perfect, neither is anybody else's. I still like his better than McCain's. What I don't respect is people on this board, not just on this thread, claiming that Obama has no plans or any real ideas other than a general call for change. You may not like them, but the plans are out there.
