Romney Never Should Have Offended Newt

But Newt had nothing to do with it. Wink, wink.

This really isn't a good strategy when you're already seen as arrogant and mean spirited by a lot of the electorate.

Look, whatever millions that Newt throws at Romney, you know that Obama has a billion dollars waiting to trash him much, much worse. Obama certainly cannot run on his record, so he will have to annihilate his opponent. So for Mitt it is better for him to get battle tested now then to be a deer in the headlights come August.

As a Republican, I say that Romney better find a way to speak to this. If he can't address it and satisfy Republican primary voters, he'll really be hosed in a general election. This is one of Romney's vulnerabilities and it and the others need to be vetted in the primary. We need a candidate who's been through the fire because he'll certainly go through one next year.

"If he can't address it and satisfy Republican primary voters, he'll really be hosed in a general election."

This statement is interchangeable for every GOP candidate. Whether it's Mitt's corporate greed or Rick's errant stupidity or Newt's personal life, there's always going to be something. I still don't think it would "hose" any of them in a general election because of partisanship.

Williard should be able to weather this storm. It will be interesting to see if his nomination will be the final nail in the coffin of the tea party.

Taking one's assumed strength and turning it into a liability is straight out of the swiftboat playbook. Even as cons prevail on Newt and Perry to stop pointing out the ugly side of leveraged buyouts, the narrative will remain in the public domain until the election.

The narrative will be and should be our historic unemployment, our skyrocketing debt, our crediit downgrade, and our operating a government for three years without a budget.

The offseason is bearable because of the repub primaries. Nothing as much fun as watching repubs tear each other apart.
